10/27 LT AMPS 252, +7 110, PMPS 147/157,+1 148,+ 2 107, +3.5 76, +4 61 +4.75 83,5.25 91

Nice to see LT can still get into green even on the .5 dose though! Getting those teeth out of there may very well help him back into remission, especially since you said the fructosamine was normal.

Remember, over 150, give the insulin (as long as you have all the supplies you might need and are home and able to test as much as necessary.)

The other option is to stall, don't feed and test again in 20-30 minutes to see if he comes up without food. If he does, it's usually safe to go ahead and shoot

Thanks for checking in on us @Chris & China (GA):). If he's above 150 tonight, I'll do as you've advised. I appreciate the help because I'm a bit rusty. Last night, I just wanted to see how he responded to no insulin. I have MC and HC labeled and ready to go! I'll have enough pet meter strips for one all-nighter, but would run low after that. I found my Prime strips and have about 20 left. I've ordered an Easy Touch (human) meter to check out because the strips are also inexpensive. Plus I want to see how accurate it is on cats - kind of a curiosity experiment to see if it comes close to working on cats like it does on dogs.

Some of my weird feeling shots didn't end up being furshots. Unless you smelled insulin? I understand why you stalled, since you're just getting the hang of this again, but the stall was likely more for you than for him ;). I'll watch for your +1.

Hi Suzanne, I'm hoping this is just a short stay here until after the dental. Did the vet mention anything about antibiotics for LT's teeth before the dental? Some vets do, just wondering.

Where did you get the Easy Touch meter? Always on the lookout for cheap strips/meter combos and curios about the results too.

I smelled insulin, however, my husband said there was a lot on the hub before the injection.

I paid $38.95 for EasyTouch Diabetes Testing Kit, EasyTouch Blood Glucose Meter, 100 EasyTouch Blood Glucose Test Strips, 100 EasyTouch Lancets, EasyTouch Lancing Device, Owner's Manual, Logbook, and Carrying Case on Amazon. They are selling strips for as cheap as $15.39 for 100 strips. I'm supposed to get it tomorrow afternoon and will try to do comparisons when I get more PetTest strips in. Oh I forgot to mention that it's also called the Member's Mark and can be purchased at Sam's Club.

The vet didn't put him on antibiotics for his teeth. I forgot to ask her about it.

I would LOVE to know what you think of them when you get them. They are also available in Canada at Walmart! :woot::woot: And half the price of almost any other test strips available here.

The fact that the numbers kept going up is a pretty good indication that the last shot was beginning to wear off so it's usually fine to shoot. Gradually, you'll reduce that "stall point" from 150 down to maybe 130, then down to maybe 110...etc. etc.

It's always a good idea to get a +1 and +2 when you first start giving insulin at those lower PS numbers until you get a better idea of how LT is going to respond to insulin this time.

Just because he did X before doesn't mean he's not going to do Y this time!

I'd do the +3....and while a 50 point drop isn't awful, the shot should just now be starting to "kick in" so any significant drop means paying closer attention.

A teaspoon or 2 of regular low carb food might help LT get up on his surfboard instead of going deep sea diving
I'll give him a little LC now. Thanks Chris for helping me out.

Should I give 2 tsp LC or 1 tsp MC gravy - I know I don't want to overdo it.

He's under 68 on a pet meter....so you'd give him a teaspoon or 2 of high carb (preferably the "gravy" part of a FF Gravy Lovers) and test again in 20-30

He's earned the reduction so he doesn't have anything else to prove.

I just gave him a teaspoon of MC, so I'll open up the FF and give him a tsp of that also. This means I need to go another 2 hours correct? Where should he be at that time so I can feel he's safe?

You want to get 2 rising numbers without having to give anymore MC or HC food. If you have to intervene again with MC or HC, the count starts over

You can take the 911 down now ;)

On the 76 at +3.5, you can put all that into the +3 cell......like 76@+3.5 and then color code it yourself (instead of taking up a whole line underneath)
