Morning, Patty. :)

I see your Bluebird is up in the rafters again this morning. :banghead:

When you have a clear moment today, could you let me know the FF LC varieties you give to Blue and how much you give him at each preshot meal and each regular mid-cycle meal (e.g. full can, 1/2 can, etc.). I'm trying to see if I can get a handle on how many calories he's getting at the moment.

I actually had the same thoughts last night and searched again for carb counts. What I found is that the American Journey I'm feeding him has one flavor that is actually higher in carbs. I had to look up what dry matter meant. The dry matter carbs was 12% but the wet was I think 5% so I didn't know the difference. Looks like the Turkey and Salmon pate is too high for Blue. I feed a variety of food so I don't know how often I've given him this higher carb version. Obviously, this probably messed up his BG.
I'll get the other information later Mogs. I'll have to figure all that out. With so many cats I'm dishing it out left and right. :cat:

I’m glad we will get the carbs right. Adding the syrup to some if tge foods might explain the really high bg at the end if the end of the cycle. Hope so. However we don’t know the exact numbers ever since we have to trust the manufacturers ;):banghead:

Friskies pate - He get's 1/4 can
Salmon dinner, Mariner's Catch, Ocean Whitefish & Tuna dinner, Chicken & Tuna dinner

Fancy Feast - He get's 1/2 can
Tender Beef Feast, Chicken Feast, Turkey & Giblets Feast
Cod, Sole & Shrimp Feast, Savory Salmon Feast, Ocean Whitefish & Tuna Feast

American Journey -
Chicken Recipe Pate, Turkey Recipe Pate - 12.5 oz. per can
Chicken & Tuna Recipe Pate, Turkey & Salmon Recipe Pate - 12.5 oz. per can (it lists 3.4% carb content)*
Minced - Chicken Recipe in gravy, Turkey Recipe in gravy, Chicken & Turkey Recipe in gravy - 3 oz. cans

* on Chewy it lists carb count 3.4% and I'm not sure where I saw the "dry matter" but will search again.

He eats at 9:30 a.m., 3:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
Each feeding he gets either 1/2 can of 3 oz., or 1/4 can of 5.5 oz. can, or the large can I just give him what looks like the same amount.
He goes around to everyone's bowl to eat leftovers. He's a pig!
He gets minnows, shrimp, chicken, duck, or rabbit freeze dried treats mostly after the 9:30 meal.

That's about it. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks Mogs, and if you can figure this out, YAY :)

His normal feeding times are 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. I had to add the night feeding to give him his insulin. Of course, I used to leave a little dry food out for munching and I no longer do that. I feed him a normal amount at 9:30 p.m. because he's starving. I have to feed everyone now at 9:30 p.m. but only give the others a small amount. I thought Blue needed a meal in order to give insulin?

In the Q&A on Chewy, people are asking specifically about carbs for their diabetic cats and that's the count they are given for the AJ. They do not list a dry matter in this area. I can't remember where I saw that but will search.

I way trying to upload from my phone but it's not working. Might be the copy and paste from Chewy not allowing me so I'll type it in here.

Q. what is the carbohydrate percentage/amount in this?
A. This variety contains approximately 2.8% carbohydrate content on an as fed basis (12.72% on a dry matter basis).

This pertains to the Turkey and Salmon pate. I found it in another section of Chewy. In another area the question is asked by the owner of a diabetic cat and they didn't mention a dry matter, but indicated a low carb food.

Thanks for all the info, Patty. Very helpful. :)

Just one thing I'd like to double-check: am I correct that Blue doesn't get any grub after the 9:30pm preshot feed (apart from low carb treats)?

Hi Patty,

Glad you're back home safe.

Ta for the additional info. I'm working on a calorie counter for Blue but it might take me a day or so to get it sorted (brain is even more mushy than usual today). The links you've provided above are a great help. :)
