Insulin

Just wondering when it would be time to increase Insulin.....Silly is on 2 units of Lantus twice a day and blood sugars are still in the 300 and 400 range.....We have been doing this for a little over a month....I am home testing him all day long and that's his curve.....In a 12 hour curve he only moves from 407 to 341....On a RX low carb diet.....When is the time to actually increase his dosage

We use a spreadsheet to be able to give dosing advice. Would it be possible to fill one in for the past two weeks?

Robert --

We are very dependent on knowing your cat's results from your testing your cat's blood glucose levels. In fact, most if not all of us are terrified to give any guidance without benefit of a spreadsheet so we can have a clear understanding of what's going on with your cat. It is far too easy to give advice that could ultimately be harmful to your cat.

I have been starring at these spread sheets for hours now and am just totally frustrated with trying to figure out how to even begin to do it........This is all I assume very frustrating at first but I'm going to try to hang in there....I have 4 indoor cats so this is affecting everyone.......Thanks so much for all of your help

I am really having a tough time trying to understand a Excel Spreadsheet.....I have never worked with them......In a month now his lowest blood sugar has been 334....and just tested him and he is 412.....I am spot on with his Lantus Doses at 6am and 6pm.....Just breaks my heart seeing these sugars hardly move at all......Thanks again 4 all of your help.....It's time for his insulin.....wish it was as easy as it is for me....I am controlled on a Insulin Pump

Robert, have you looked at the spreadsheets that the other members use?

We fill in the AMPS (AM pre-shot value) and the PMPS (PM pre-shot value) when we test our kitties - just type the blood glucose reading into those two spots - any other tests that you get between those tests - are labeled as 1+ 2+ etc. I added another row on my SS so I could tell what time I was testing and what time I give shots.

It's helpful to see what other people are doing...

Try not to think of it as an "Excel Spreadsheet" - it's just a grid where you write your numbers - let's go from there...

If you’re still have trouble even with the instructions there are people that can help. Post in the Spreadsheets, Tech Support and Testing Area forum (second from the top in the list of forums) with a title saying ‘can’t set up spreadsheet’ or similar and note that you’ve tried to follow the instructions and what your issues were.

Feline diabetes is indeed a very frustrating thing to start off with, the learning curve is huge! But you have definitely found the right place to get help for you and Silly :cat:

The spreadsheet is already formatted for you. You just need to make a copy! If you need some help, feel free to send me a private message by clicking on my name and choosing "start a conversation".

I'm really happy to set it up for you once I have some information! Takes about 60 seconds so it's no trouble at all!

Robert -

This post about the spreadsheet may help. It provides an explanation of what the columns mean.

Either Chris or @Bandit's Mom can help you get the spreadsheet set up. It's a very convenient way for you to be able to track your cat's progress and it allows us to follow along and have the information needed to offer recommendations.

Hi Robert, I have sent you a personal message with the details I need to set up the spreadsheet for you.
