? 10/21 Mouse - came back from 48 hrs at vet, did not get insulin while there

TLDR: Mouse spent about 48 hrs at the emergency vets, she was in critical condition for 24 hrs, then stabilized. She's now on steroids, and is testing around 200 at home. We still don't know the full cause, but they are leaning towards cancer and want a biopsy to confirm. We can't afford it right now, so we have her on pain meds, antibiotics, prednisone, and antiemetics until we can follow up with her normal vet.

They did not give her any insulin while she was at the office. She was testing over 200 while there, but not eating, they still thought she was leaning toward remission despite those numbers, and attributed it to stress.

She's been home about 4 hours now, she's still testing in the 200's, and probably still stressed. I know the prednisone could boost her glucose, so I'm not sure if I should adjust her insulin dose or continue at her current dose of .25UI. I could use from help. I feel like the vet's office may have set us back here.

I would continue with the current .25 dose. The steroids may mean you have to increase but I’d wait for the numbers to tell you that because - ECID

GI inflammation can be IBD or small cell lymphoma, if no mass was seen. You do need a biopsy or endoscopy to sample the tissue and figure out what you are dealing. Small cell lymphoma sounds scary, but the vast majority of cats can go into remission on the right chemo protocol. It is a mild chemo drug.

Is it prednisone or prednisolone she is getting? Cats do better on prednisolone. And it’ll have to be stopped for a while before any biopsy is done.

She had earned that reduction to 0.1 units, but the pred will likely impact her numbers. Could you update her spreadsheet with the latest? By the way, my non diabetic tested in the 200’s at a stressful vet visit, so I wouldn’t worry too much about that right now. Give her overnight to calm down.

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this...I do wish you both the best...hoping she'll feel better now that she's home and those numbers will come down.

She has more on her plate right now than a few higher BG's...try not to stress about too much.

I just checked the bottle, and it is prednisolone.

That exactly matches what the vet told told me, which is why I'm willing to find the money for a biopsy. If it's small cell lymphoma, she has a very good chance of survival.

I don't have the exact numbers from when she was in the office, I'm a dumbass and didn't write them down, and they didn't give me a comprehensive sheet on check out. I'll be updating it as of a few minutes from now.

Adding in, she slowly ate her dinner over the night while I had her in the bedroom (locked away from the crazy kitten), and she's barely touching her breakfast now.

You can have your vet email you her labs and all test results. Sorry for the suspected diagnosis but if scl as Wendy said it’s treatable.

If they can do an endoscopy (depends what part of the intestine is thickened and whether it can be reached), it's cheaper and faster recovery than surgical biopsy.

My Tiffany was diagnosed via endoscopy. I hope that’s possible for Mouse.

I'm waiting to hear back from her vet. They're going to review the notes from her emergency visit and get back to me, but the emergency vet wanted to do a surgical biopsy due to the fluid in the uterine stump.

In better news: she's up and moving around today. Her eyes are bright, and she's eating. I have upped her insulin to .5 UI, and she doesn't seem to be in any pain.
