10/21/20 Squeaky!! +10.5=414 AMPS=463 -- PMPS 169 Skipping +2 = 239 good nite

Hi Y'all, well we were so busy this afternoon and I watched him eat a lot so we skipped the mid-cycle shot. He needed a break. I think the cold weather is moving blood out of his ears.

Anyway once I was instructed not to shoot at 200 and once I was instructed not to shoot at 150. Here we are at 169. So I'll stall for a little while. Wait to see if I get any instructions. 8:15

When you’re stalling you don’t want to feed. The purpose of stalling is to see if the number is rising on it’s own. Don’t beat yourself up over it though that it’s a very common mistake the first time you try stalling. Next time you will know :cat:

Are you able to monitor closely tonight - plenty of strips, HC food, ability to stay awake etc.? If you do shoot it may be a very active cycle, potentially even one where a reduction is earned and I can see you haven’t dealt with that before. It’s always a bit nerve wracking the first time.

I would say this is not a great night for that. I have a busy work day tomorrow including a new client. I'm already stressed about that.

Also today is his last day on prednisilone. We have been tapering. I am wondering if numbers will come down on their own just from this change. The less nerve-wracking, the better, for the catmom.

So if I don't shoot then should I give a token .25 shot or just skip?

Actually this is already causing more stress, on Friday I have an 8:30 appointment and I'm trying to move his shot time up so I can do it before I have to leave for the appointment. We're already a half hour past the target time.

Also in relation to your comment about the weather getting colder - do you know about rice socks? These help you get blood when the ears are cold. You just put some uncooked rice in the toe of a sock and microwave it a little (works like a wheat bag) - you don’t want it hot (test against the inside of your arm like a bottle) - and hold it against the edge of the ear for maybe 30 secs or longer to warm the ear before you test. Then the blood will flow easily.

Yes I'm already doing this. I use a small sandbag and heat it in the toaster oven. Plus I rub his ear to get the circulation going. Especially his right ear, it just doesn't always produce. The heated sandbag does seem to help, but sometimes it still takes 3 pricks.

So for tonight maybe it’s best you skip and then you can sort out the shot time issue as well and start at the time you want to shoot tomorrow morning.

That sounds good. No token shot .25? Whoops, right. No shot to keep the shot times straight.

Okay, so his number will probably go way up tonight? What time(s) should I do mid-cycle tests?

Should I restrict his food? Usually he eats as much as he wants.

It’s definitely an option but because of the lantus depot action you may still get an active cycle tonight, particularly because it may be a bounce breaking cycle where she has just slid down all day.

ETA see back on 10/6 and 10/10 in Squeaky’s spreadsheet

Thanks for the heads up. So I should test at +2 to see what is happening?

After eating he just conked out, made me a little concerned.

If you skip, yes why not for curiosities sake. This will be good data to have to help make future decisions, and if you do skip make the most of the opportunity to relax tonight - those reduction earning nights will be coming up ;):D

If you give even a token dose you’ll want to start with a +1 tonight

Okay I will test at +2, that is, from the time it SHOULD have been. We're already an hour later.

No dose. Skipping. I think it works out better and yes we will learn.

For the future, on this forum we say that if you are following TR and see a preshot below 150, you do not feed, and post for help on what to do. The Feline Health forum has a guideline of 200, so maybe that’s where the number confusion came in.

Hmmm, sounds totally possible.

So was I completely out of line asking for help at 163? Or was I okay? It's pretty close to 150. And I was sooooo tired.

I am definitely quite nervous about low numbers and yes I've read the file several times. I'm one of those learn by doing people, I guess.

I want to use the board correctly. Also to keep my cat alive.....
