10/12/20 - Squeaky!! - AMPS 316 +2 = 279 +5 = 326 PMPS 296, +2 = 279

Umm...good question! Others may have a different opinion, but...

I was thinking that the +2 didn’t seem like a worrisome drop and the +2 number wasn’t too low. If we were in the 100’s at +2, I might have suggested a +3, 4, etc., until you are sure kitty is surfing safe. I think I was suggesting the +5, was for an extra hour without pokes, and +5 would likely let you catch a number if he slides down more today. Then you can decide if you need more monitoring and at what times then?

At night, a little different, because we are usually trying to decide if we can sleep! LOL.

I don’t know if that makes sense, but you can of course test at +4 if you prefer. No harm done, if you do :bighug:

Sounds like good thinking! The fewer pokes the better (although we are doing pretty well with them, he still doesn't like it.). Also I was looking at our SS, we've never done a +5!

So he went up, looks like a quiet day for me. Cheers and thanks so much for your help.

Squeaky looks terrible tonight. Very lethargic. About to test, I hope he does better.

Hopefully will break the bounce tonight or tomorrow! :) A +2 tonight could help you tell if might be tonight.

Hi Tanya, you are still there!!!!! How is your day going? Or night.

Yes we will get a +2. Do you think his numbers are what is making him feel so crummy today? I made sure he got his prednisilone and cerenia today so I suspect it's not digestive...... Oh BTW tomorrow we start budesonide and Wednesday we start tapering prednisilone to zero. :) I am hopeful for improvement all around....

I am in Vancouver, it’s not quite 9pm here Our shot times are similar, so it’s good timing!

That seems exciting! I don’t have experience with steroid tapers and it’s affect on blood glucose levels, but can tag some that might? @Wendy&Neko @tiffmaxee @Kyle & Simon

From my understanding, is that some kitties are steroid induced diabetics, but when the meds are tapered, can decrease insulin needs fairly quickly.

Vancouver is so lovely! Nice we are at similar times.

Do you think his numbers are why he's been feeling so crummy today?

Yes I am hopeful that there is positive, maybe quick (if healthy) change in everything..... Wish us luck. I wouldn't be surprised if this is steroid induced diabetes. I hope so because then the cure is simple. He will get his first dose of budesonide tomorrow.

It’s possible the higher numbers are what is making him feel not his best, yes. Cosmo is bouncing tonight and he is grumbling and sighing....sounds like complaining LOL

Wow I just looked at your spreadsheet. Egads so much black and red. Also you test 10 times a day!!!!!! You are a very loving and patient catmom.

Your spreadsheet was informative!
Yes you can see that his numbers dropped quickly and he was very responsive to insulin. He was completely off pred at this point and we didn’t start budesonide until near the end- so your transition could be different/slower. Are you using the Entocort form of budesonide?

Yes so interesting! It could be very different. I know nothing about budesonide. Entocort?

Hmmm, Squeaky perked up some around +1 and ate a bit just before the +2 test. His number is 279. Does this mean I get to sleep tonight?

 Every cat is different :p Cosmo is on his own journey and needs to eat high carb food to manage his other condition. He has been improving greatly lately! So much different than our Elie who went into remission many years ago.

Have a great night!

Hi Jan, Entocort is a time released enteric coated capsule that is supposed to be better at delivering the budesonide to the intestines. I will try to find a good link w/ more information for you.

Thank you so much. It is a little, white, roundish pill. The vet gave me some of hers, it was not in the original packaging. I will be receiving another supply of pills within a few days and if it has any original packaging, I will let you know. Thanks so much.

Hi Kyle, the package just arrived and the delivery instructions say:

Item # Description Qty
18321 Budesonide 1mg Mini-Melts 90 count bottle 1

Do you think I should have them send it back and get the enteric coated capsule?

However the vet sent me 14 from her own supply while we were waiting..... and I'm already seeing a difference in Squeaky's gut. He just pooped 3 days in a row. That is pretty amazing! All in the box.

Let me know if you think I should fuss around with this, if it's that important. Or just wait until we run out of them and get the entocort next time?

Thanks a bunch.

That is such good news! I think if it seems to be helping I probably wouldn’t change anything :D Depending on where the inflammation is- you may not need the coated capsules? Plus the melts are probably way easier to give!! I hope Squeaky continues to do well. Any change in BG? If Squeaky’s symptoms come back, then you could try the enticort? So glad to hear things are going well :bighug:

Thanks Kyle! BG still bouncing everywhere. I'll follow your suggestions. Thanks!
