Hi all,

I mentioned this in another post, but it was suggested by Wendy&Neko that I post this subject line for help.

https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...etation-upcoming-out-of-town-concerns.236939/

I will be out of town starting next Monday-Saturday; hubby will give shots (but working 10-12 hrs/day, so only AM/PM shots) but will not be doing any BG testing. She will be alone all day so cannot be monitored at all. She is currently at 1.25, but I will reduce to 1.0 from this evening until leaving very early Monday. Her numbers are improving overall, as I try to find the right dose. However, I need some guidance on what is best/safest dose for her while me being away next week. I know yellow 200's are not ideal, but is this safe for her for a short period? Note, she has been increasingly agitated with her BG ear pokes so that's why I do not have more readings.

Also, right now her shots timing is 7.30a/8a and 7.30p/8p; with hubby's ever-changing schedule, next week will be fluctuating with 5.30a/6a and ~5-7pm.... do I need to do her shots earlier in the next three days? Her water consumption and urination are back to normal, and her energy and mood are good.

Thank you!

7pm Update... I have done BG testing today and got very odd numbers... AMPS 249, (1.25 shot); 55 at +6; 110 at +8; then 53 at +11...?? unless the last one was an inaccurate blood sample? how can the numbers go down, up then down again over 5 hours?? So confused! I don't want to give her her night shot now since they are so low. Any suggestions?

Sometimes Lantus does a little double dip near the end of the cycle.
And yes, it could have been a faulty strip. Did you retest?
Don't feed. See what the PMPS number is, don't feed, and ask for help. Add the numbers from this afternoon to the title of your thread and add "Need help."

With SLGS a reduction has been earned if she comes up enough to shoot. Let’s see PMPS. If high enough to shoot the dose will be 1.0.

Her 7pm preshot was the 53; I did go ahead and feed her (before knowing I shouldn’t); I just retested again at 9:30p after food and it was 85. I did not give her her shot tonite.

I didn’t retest immediately; but fed her , then retested at 9:30p and it was 85. Still did not give her shot.

When is your shot time? You want two hours without food so it’s not food influenced so you are okay with that.

Usually 7:30 or 8pm shot time, she did not have food 2 hrs prior to the 7pm 53 number. Is it correct to still not shoot tonite to be safe?
Thank you!

Yes. Don’t shoot. So that was when exactly? Over an hour and a half after shot time. The new dose in the is morning 1.0. Then ask again tomorrow night about the vacation dose. You might want to start it then. Is it correct that you will leave after the morning shot on Monday?Be sure to include that in your post tomorrow.

After no shot last night (PMPS 53); I gave her 1.0 dose this morning after AMPS 391 (and 249 at +6 this afternoon), and will look to keep this dose for next week in my absence. Or should I reduce to .75 even? I need to leave at 3:15AM for the airport Monday, so hubby will be giving the shot between 5:30a - 6am before work. He will be away most days anywhere from 11-13 hours.

See how she does today and tomorrow and then we can decide. Will he test at night?

He will not be testing at all, only shots. I know this is a bit nerve racking, but she has done extremely well all through the dose variations... still pretty energetic, playful and 'happy' since she has been on wet food. Even on her low low numbers she didn't have any hypo symptoms at all. Thx for your help!

I think I would give her .75 while you are gone. Max never showed symptoms either but dip drop into the 30’s. I never would have known if I hadn’t tested. The 1.25 brought Zwena too low. If my cat I would rather have her run a little high. It’s up to you.

Yes, I agree with higher! the .75 sounds good to me too. I'll be back on Saturday night.

If your hubby isn't used to drawing the insulin syringe, you might want to leave a sample syringe - which is one filled with coloured liquid of some type (tea, juice) to show where 0.75 units is. Have a good time away.

Thx! He is familiar with the syringes and he did the shot tonite (and will Sun), so we should be good. Odd tho that she was mid 200's at both +6 and +11
