Welp... guess she didn’t want that increase LOL

I know I was supposed to stall and retest, but she woke me up and was flipping out when I was getting her meter ready, and then she sat down and waited to be tested (instead of running under the bed and playing hide-and-seek for 3 minutes).

One of the reasons I keep using the AT2 is, for whatever reason, because it’s consistently is lower than the ReliOn if she’s under 70.

So, I didn’t stall, because she’s been going down the whole cycle, and I fed. Should I skip the shot entirely? Do I shoot a reduced dose??

Ugh, I don’t know what to do. I reread the stickies and I’m so conflicted. I feel like I should have stalled and not fed her, but I also know that it’s super abnormal for her to sit and wait for her BGL to be tested and I know she didn’t feel right.

I don’t want to skip the shot and drain her depo, but I won’t be home to monitor the whole cycle either, I have to leave before her +4.

Since you can't stay home all day to monitor, it is probably safer to skip the shot. You don't have the data to know what she'll do if you shoot green. You'll get another chance to shoot a green when you can monitor. Safety first.

After inhaling 1.8oz of food (TikiCat, 0 carb), her BGL is 87 mg/dL on ReliOn (and 93 mg/dL on AT2).

She’s super food sensitive, thankfully, but she’ll continue going up. The last time I skipped a shot on PZ when she was low, she shot up into purple without.

Thanks, you’re totally right! I feel so bad that I’m going to undo her progress, but I know I’d feel worse if something happened when I wasn’t home. Why couldn’t this have happened yesterday or tomorrow?!

WOW! Your first green pre-shot! Exciting!

And I agree with Carla, no shooting that kind of number if you're leaving the house. Another test and some extra food also a great idea!

I'm a little confused though on which meter you used - you said AT2, but then at the top of your SS it says Relion...so, just saying it's going to cause confusion. Once you switch meters - preferably human, it's best to stick with that meter. I did the same thing...I'd get a number on my OneDrop (human meter), then get another test on the Pet Meter (from Advanced) and would be thoroughly confused...

The trends are what you're looking for...if the number is 'low', it's likely going to be 'low' on either meter...I've seen situations where the cat constantly was in the 'blues' 100-200 range on the AT2 and upon switching to a human meter went and stayed in the 'greens' under 100...so it's the trends you're looking for...

Not that it would have made a difference this morning...a green pre-shot is a different animal and if it's your first one you've done the right thing.

On the matter of Bernie dancing and prancing for her morning meal - I use those little freeze dried treats to calm Luci down. She thinks the minute I get up, she should have her food! She used to be very demanding and would sometimes drive me crazy with her antics...I thought how in the world am I going to hold off until (whatever time I had set up) to feed her?? She has learned that when I get up = she gets fed. Now, not so much...I'm up and she's waiting, stamping her little foot...so that's where the freeze dried treat comes in handy. It's just enough to give her a little bite of something and she usually calms down and is patient enough to wait until our appointment test/feed/shoot time for her breakfast. Luci always was a good eater...

I hope this is helpful! Have a great day Megan!

Should I reduce her dose tonight back to 3.25u (I only just increased her to 3.5u last night’s cycle)?

On one hand, she didn’t go below 50 on the ReliOn and I know she’s gonna be back in the yellows or purples, and I’d like to refill her depot sooner rather than later, but on the other hand, she was 54 on the AT2. In the past, I’ve used the AT2 for reductions because it is almost always the lower of the two once she goes under 70, but I’m okay with holding her at 3.5u tonight if that’s what y’all think would be better??

she didn’t go below 50 on the ReliOn

Ok, so let's say the Relion meter is the only one in play here...if you're on TR and she didn't go below 50, she did not earn a reduction.

She may bounce because this is new territory for her. It happens. New low numbers = bouncing - it's a natural process that happens when her body perceives a dangerously low situation. She hasn't seen numbers like this, so it may happen...completely normal...

Oh, I need to get these! I’ve always used the ReliOn for increases and monitoring, but the vet wanted an AT2 and was giving me some grief over dosing when I was on PZ, so I got one (mostly to play nice, since I wanted her to give me a prescription for Lantus but she was hesitant because she hadn’t used it before LOL).
I’ve been using both for preshots (to confirm it’s not a wonky strip, and also out of curiosity to how the two are related), but have only ever used the ReliOn for dosing, since the protocols were written on human values. I think I reduced her once or twice on the PZ when her AT2 was like 40  but it drives me nuts mulling over whether or not to reduce her based on the AT2. It’s only ever the lower meter when she’s under 70, but I can’t seem to kick the “what if’s” if I don’t take it into account.

Hah, okay! I’m more than okay with not reducing her, I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t being too aggressive. But yes, I like the idea of consistently going off the ReliOn. Thank you so much for answering so quickly :):)

PMPS wasn’t as high as I was anticipating, just barely over yellows, which is great!:cat::cat:

Hopefully she’ll come back down tonight and tomorrow. Hope everyone has a wonderful night!

Thanks again to everyone for all the help this morning! Y’all are seriously the best! :):bighug:

She's just in the midst of a bit of a bounce...let's see how long it takes her to clear that bounce and get back down to the beach.

Where'd you put that AT2? Oh, can't remember now? That's ok...let's just see how the numbers run on the Relion :)

Bouncy Bernie! Nice to see her in the lagoon this morning, though!!

I had a vet briefly who approved of home testing but insisted it had to be with an AlphaTrak. So every two weeks I'd do a curve for her using the AlphaTrak, and otherwise I used my human meter. BUt of course curiosity got the better of me, so I tried to compare a few readings using the same drop of blood and honestly they were quite worrying so my solution was to just stop doing that. :)

Haha I need to hold a Viking funeral for that bad boy and send it out to sea!

Maybe the flames dancing on the water will overwhelm Bernie with curiosity and she’ll make her way back to the beach to investigate :p:p

LOL I’ve been doing the same thing! I tried explaining how I was using the human meter to the vet and she was so confused, she just couldn’t get past the fact that it wasn’t a pet meter, so I ended up caving. Not sure why my brain chose that as the giving point, since I had zero intentions of following her dosing suggestions haha!;)

LOLOL!!!! That's hilarious. It was the exact same thing with my vet. :D I have no idea why I gave into her, either, since I wanted to follow TR.

Yep....you really can't get anywhere trying to explain this stuff to them. You might hand them an article or some of the whitepapers...but they probably won't read it.

I don't discuss any of that with my vets. Not meters, not FD, or testing, or dose changes...it just doesn't help. I do tell them always that she's a diabetic and that I'm taking care of her and if they want to see the SS I'll share that...but as far as discussions go, I let them talk and I say, uh uh, yes, thank you...I'll get back to you :) Smile big...pay bill, leave.

Love the viking send off btw :)
