I'm much better although not entirely 100% yet. Thanks for thinking of me guys!

I have no plans today other than picking up a prescription and watching Georgia Tech football tonight. I'm good if Blue needs additional testing. I might get a nap in if possible. Looks cloudy out so perfect day for that.

Are you feeling better Mogs?

What going on with you Jeanne?

Thank you both for helping me. I would have killed Blue giving him 2 units twice a day. :(

Thank you both for helping me.
Very glad to do a wee bit to help you, Patty. As I said to Sally on her thread, we're only cheering you on. It's you two that are doing all the hard yards. :)

There's no way of knowing that, Patty. You followed the directions given by the vet in good faith, but in addition to that you straight away took control of Blue's treatment and sought additional information about how best to manage Blue's diabetes, and learned to home test. You are doing a marvellous job of caring for your beautiful Bluebird and you have kept him safe all the way. (((Patty)))

I was looking for spreadsheets for kitties previously treated with Novolin N earlier today. If you want to see something really scary, have a look at Woody's one:

Woody's Spreadsheet

12 units BID!!! Of Novolin N!!! On a preshot in the 200s!!!! Nadir BG in the 20s!!!!!! On an Alphatrak!!!!!!!!!

My jaw went through the floor when I answered that thread. :nailbiting: Expletives were uttered.

The only reason Woody's numbers got as high as they did was because the vet put him onto Hill's w/d (crammed to the gunwales with carbs). Ironically, the w/d was the only thing that kept him going long enough until his mama could find better info about feline diabetes and insulin treatment. Her other cat was also being overdosed, though not as badly. Thankfully their mama was able to manoeuvre them both back to safety, with a little info from FDMB. And Woody went into remission very quickly once he was switched to a low-carb diet. (I'm not 100% convinced he was ever diabetic in the first instance.)

So many stories like above. So sad at times. You are doing great with Blue Patty. Just look at how his ss has changed recently for a reminder. You took a leap of faith and trusted us. It’s hard to ignore a vet. Good things come to those who help themselves and seek answers. :bighug:

Ain't it just. I was desperate to start home testing Saoirse and I was so relieved when I finally got the Alphatrak. However, even after I got the meter I didn't initially test as much as I wanted to. I'd be itching to know where Saoirse's BG was during the day but I'm such a wuss I resisted the urge to test because I was so afraid the vet would tell me off!

The reticence didn't last long. :p

That is very scary! Thank goodness he survived.

I think I felt the same way. I didn't trust the 2 units to blindly give to my precious Bluebird. Also, when it happened to Sally's Lily and she was about to shot 2 units...Yikes I told her no immediately. She shot only 1 unit thank goodness. Thanks for helping her as well. My vet got on board right away and I think Sally's will too.

Thanks Elise. Glad I found you guys. His SS is looking better and I'm learning more and more. No one was up the other night when I tested at 4 a.m. and he was low and I didn't panic. Because we had already been through I think the night before, I was able to navigate much better. Although you probably would have wanted him to stay in green longer...:) I'll learn.

Formula 1 RACING;) I'm a gearhead. grew up in racing.:D

Football, baseball and college basketball for me.
My ex went to a Formula 1 race several years ago and took photos. The cars were incredible. I used to work in advertising and sales promotions for Coca-Cola and we sponsored Nascar so I had to attend some races and learned to hate Nascar. Do they televise the races here?

You did brilliantly, Patty!

BTW, safe is what matters; greens are a bonus. :)

Yes F1 IS ON ESPN. Usually wee hours of the morning (most races are in Europe. Both practices were rained out this morning)
I watch primarily nascar. I was in the media for 5 years and got to meet a LOT of the old timers. Hubby and I had our own radio show for 5 years. I use to be a Dodger fan. Me and my girlfriend use to ditch work to go watch the Dodgers play. That all ended when they had that big strike. You can BET the drivers in nascar will NEVER strike. Did your Ex go to the Texas race?

sorry for the novel. :p

Very cool! Was that back in Tommy Lasorda days? Dodgers were our nemesis. We have to play them next week. :arghh: I hear they are really good.
I believe the race was on the east coast but I don't remember where. I probably still have the photos/slides somewhere downstairs in storage.
I met several drivers back in the day but I just didn't care for the sport. My brother enjoyed my access because he got pit passes. He's a big fan.
Off to test...Mogs is waiting. ;)

Have to go with the Braves! The Lakers look pretty awesome but they always do.

I didn't care for Lasorda back in the day but he grew on me. I had a good friend that pitched for the Dodgers but blew out his arm and only pitched a couple of years. Whenever Tommy came to town he'd invite him to the game and have dinner. I heard he was that way with his players.

This is his normal meal time. You'd rather I not feed that much?

Actually, 3:30 - 4:00 is normal meal time. I can give a couple of spoonfuls now and test in half hour and then feed???

Sorry for delay in reply, Patty. Was responding to a 911. Nan's got it in hand now.

I did't realise it was Blue's normal mealtime. I'd be inclined to give Blue the rest of his scheduled feed.

Let me know what you decide.

Addendum:

He's over 30 points above the hypo threshold and you're almost at the mid-point of the cycle, so unlikely to need steering for the remainder. Never a guarantee, of course...

Blue!!!

Said there was no guarantee?!

Not sure whether you gave Blue the rest of his meal or whether you waited, so:

1. If you didn't give the rest of the +5 meal, I suggest a tsp of either:

- 2 tsps Medium Carb (if you've got any)

- OR -

- a mix of 1 tsp each of HC and LC - same as you did yesterday.

2. If he's already eaten the rest of the LC just give him 1 tsp of MC if you have it, HC if you don't have MC.

Then test again in 30 minutes.

I had given him just a little more LC and now gave him the mix I used yesterday...he's digging it. So funny, he's making noises eating it so fast. Crazy Bluebird

30 minutes from last test or from eating?
