Advice please. Planning to skip tonight’s dose. And decrease to 3.5u at next shot. He had a dental and 8 extractions last Friday. Ideas why am numbers are higher ? Too much insulin ?

It's still fairly soon since the dental which can cause some wonky numbers for awhile until they settle down. Has he got an appointment for a re-check? It's always a good idea to make sure that there's no infection or nothing else going on like a leftover root after extractions.

How flexible is your shot schedule? Can you be off by a couple of hours and then work your way back or do you need to stay on the times you shoot now?

Not much flexibility with shot time- maybe 1 hour tomorrow am. He was 75 just now at normal “shot time”. I don’t want to totally skip, but understand it may be best. Thoughts ??

OK....what I'd do with my own cat would be this....I'd stall for another 30 minutes and see where he's at then (as long as he hasn't had any high carb food since +10)

If he's still rising on his own (without more food), I'd give a reduced dose tonight IF I was able to test tonight. Remember, with Lantus, it doesn't usually start to kick in for 2-3 hours and you're also going to be feeding him which will help bring his number up.

Maybe just give 1U so you're not totally draining the depot and test at +1 and +2 and go from there

There's nothing wrong with just skipping either if that's what your gut is telling you to do. He'll get back on track

+1 pm he was 89 - we are going to skip tonight’s shot.
Thanks SO much for your input Chris- appreciate it beyond words!! I just can’t convince myself to give insulin. Sometimes his numbers are so flat and then other times he varies greatly. (Hopefully the dental will help with this.)
