10/8 Monamie - still not regulated, ideas??

Hi everyone!

Went to the vet for her checkup a couple days ago, and luckily there are no alarm bells from her panels (no ketones in urine, pancreases and liver look fine, etc.)

But, the vet agreed that her diabetes is still not well regulated. Her pre-shot numbers are ALL over the place. I’m not sure what else to do, or what I’m doing wrong??

Vet suggested either a) increasing dosage from 1 unit to 1.5 units, or b) switching from the FF pates to an Rx wet food, like Royal Canin Glycobalance. I’m nervous about option a, considering her last curve got to a nice nadir in the 80’s, so an increase in insulin seems a little dangerous. Not sure about option b either. I know we’re fans of the FF pates on this forum, but the vet swears that these are high in carbs, and that the glycobalance wet food has “complex carbs” that are ok...??

Any other ideas on what to try? (Am I doing something wrong?)

Thanks in advance for your input and help.

Looks like you're only doing a curve once a week and aren't getting PM tests.

Is it possible for you to get some tests in between the shots on the AM cycle? And it's really important (especially if you can't test during the AM cycle) that you get at least 1 test "before bed" on the PM cycle.

The problem with only doing a curve once a week is that it only gives you one cycle's data and that's just not enough to know what's really going on.

Thank you for the suggestion, I’ll try to get more tests in. Unfortunately, I’m still working almost every M-F, 9-6, so that usually only leaves weekends available for curves. But, I’ll certainly try to take more before-bed tests at the very least!

Have you read the idea's in "Can I do TR with a full time job"? Even if you're doing SLGS, there are some good suggestions that may be helpful.

I don't know what time you have to leave in the morning or when you get home from work, but maybe you could get an "out the door" test in the morning or an "in the door" test when you get home?

With SLGS, Monamie would have earned a reduction down to 0.75 units with that 86 on 9/29. I rather suspect what you are seeing is bouncing from lows you aren't catching.

Your vet has that wrong. Glycobalance is high in carbs and we've seen cats on it have their numbers spike, or drop when they go off of it. There are some high carb FF but not the pates.
