Adam's sugar is all over the place . We switedfrom Friskies to Aldis this past weekend . I guess it's the food that's giving him lower numbers. He is usually around 300s .He is on Prozinc 2 Units Am and 1 1/2 units PM 12 hours apart. We also started feeding him differently. We were gingham one can in the morning and one at night. My friend is diabetic and said they needed to eat often so now we are feeding more ofte.

Good job getting your numbers onto the spreadsheet! But I think the 163 goes in the PMPS cell (you have it in the Units cell)

Now we need to get your signature set up. Go to your sign on name at the top right of this page....there's a drop down menu where you can choose "Signature". Click there and a new box will open up.

In that box put information like:

Your name/Cat's name, age, sex, date of diagnosis, type of insulin, type of meter, type of food, any other health issues or medications? .....then copy your spreadsheet link and paste it at the end and then "Save"!

That way we don't have to keep asking the same questions over and over again. You'll see examples of Signatures under our comments.

Now for dosing help....The 163 tonight is a great Pre-shot number but we usually suggest giving the same dose both AM and PM, at least until you have a little more data and experience. ProZinc can be dosed using a sliding scale, but most cats do better with the same dose both times.

You might want to try giving 1.5 units both AM and PM for several days and then see where you're at.

He was on it at 1 1/2 am and pm but he was still too high so the vet switched him to this way. Idk why but she did. We switched him to aldis canned food over the weekend and he seems to be doing much better with lower n UK mbers. I couldn't find a carb count on it though

Good job with your signature but you should put the link to your spreadsheet at the end.

If it's too many spaces, you can edit your signature to just give the main facts (you can use my signature as an example)

I understand but were you testing that whole time? It's important to test at Pre-Shot but that's only to make sure they're high enough to safely give insulin at all. It's the tests in between the shots that really tell you what's going on.

If he was only tested at the vet, those numbers aren't going to be accurate either due to stress which can raise the blood glucose much higher than normal.

No he was never tested at the vet I wouldn't allow it which pissed her off..oh well. She wanted to do her own curve because she said she didn't think I was doing it right. She also didn't like the spreadsheet that's why I had to write everything down in his book for her. She doesn't want us to use a humane meter so for a curve I switch to the Alpha Track so she can see.his numbers. I didn't know I was supposed to check him mid day so now I started that. And yes I have been testing him since he was diagnosed Am and PM. She said not.to test but once a week because it stresses him out. I told her no it doesn't he sit there and purrs and drools and is happy as a clam. Then he gets a few shrimp and goes to eat and get his shot.

Good for you! I may be off base here but when I hear Vets say NOT to home test I wonder ...is that because you make more money with doing curves that can give FALSE numbers due to vet stress? I mean really... that way they have you coming back over and over all the while charging for information you can gather easily at home. I would find another vet willing to work WITH you NOT against you.:mad::mad:

I just started with them they seem ok. They don't know much about diabetes though most vets don't. She found out quickly I do what I want to do and won't be pushed into doing something. Sadly yes it's a money maker just like giving yearly shots that they don't need. They get shots their first year then that's it except for rabies for my dog. All my cats are indoor only so I never worry about them getting anything .
