Wow his ears don't seem to have much blood today, we poked several times. Then when it came time for his shot, he jumped away three times!!!

He is NOT a HAPPY CAMPER and is starting to get uncooperative.

Just went to hide behind the sofa, knowing that the evening routine is coming.

Oh yes, he gets all kinds of treats, love, I take him outside in the grass, affection, singing.....

Wish me luck! I wish my tolerance for this kind of thing was higher, I wouldn't be complaining to y'all so much......

Poor guy. I empathize with him.

I hear you! Hopefully he will get used to it before too long. Mine now cuddles in my lap and takes it like a trooper. I do find it helpful to hold a small bottle of warm water on the ear first when it's cold; it makes things happen much better! When mine needs a break from the ears, I do resort to the large pad on the back of his foot. He stands on his pet counter and lets me pick up his foot and prick. Good luck to you!

Back left while he's interested in what's in his bowl. I use the large pad and then I hold a cosmetic pad with rubbing alcohol on it for a few seconds with his foot back down on the counter. What part of the paw pad? Center? I really do think those ears need a rest sometimes.

Yes, I do usually the centre of the large pad. I find if I squeeze it gently for a few seconds then poke, I get a decent sized drop that will work. They do pick up on our energy, for sure. Try not to feel bad about poking him but focus your positive energy on how you are helping him. I believe they know this too. You'll both get more comfortable, trust me!

Awwwww, he came around tonight, came out from hiding and didn't jump around for me. Ya gotta love the guy....... like you say, a trooper.

Good boy Squeaky ! And well done you! They definitely do pick up on how we feel and boy do they know how to press those guilt buttons. Mac loves to back away as soon as I make the tent so I have to stop, wait and start again may be 3 times before I get to give his shot then hardly reacts at all to it being done ! Grrr !! I realised that when I let it stress me out each time I had to start again he just got worse. So since then I've made a point of staying calm, keep telling him what a good boy he is with a smile (even if with mentally clenched teeth!) and patiently waiting and it does seem to help him. And knowing we'll get there in the end !

Thanks for your story and encouragement. I'm still not convinced that I will not actually kill Squeaky at some point during this misadventure, but oh well, we do the best we can. Hopefully there is a lot of room for error because I'm sure I will make many.

I am now putting him between my legs and holding tight for the insulin shot. He can't get out. This is working better, no wiggle room for getting away!
