? Baker 9/28 AMPS 83

Hello!

This morning my cat, Baker, woke me at 6 am, about 2 hours before he normally gets breakfast and his shot. I got up and fed him, but didn't test his BG or give him a shot, thinking I'd be up in about an hour to do it. Well, I woke at 8, tested him, and his BG was 79. Suspecting an error, I tested again immediately and it was 83. Normally he is around 100 in the morning. This is very strange, as 2 hours post-meal I was expecting an increased BG reading, not lower than usual. I tested him again around 11:30 pm, and he was still around 80.

My question is: how is it possible his BG would be so low without his dose of insulin?

I haven't been updating his spreadsheet because as of 9/21 Google Sheets has not been allowing me to edit cells in the spread sheet. Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,

Kate

Yes. I cleared my cookies and cache and the spreadsheet worked again. I have a very old laptop so I think it gets gummed up from time to time.
Spreadsheet is up to date

Thanks for updating the spreadsheet.

Your spreadsheet shows you haven't missed any doses of insulin for 5 days, so I'm not sure how to answer the question. A follow on question I would ask is, how much lower than 79 was he overnight? How low was he when he woke you up for food?

Since you are following SLGS, and he's been going regularly below 90, it's time to reduce his dose to 0.25 units. If possible, I'd also be trying to get more spot checks in the middle of the cycle for him. Testing before bed every night is a good practice to get into. Baker's looking really good, but we also need to make sure he's in safe numbers.

Thank you, Wendy. I made an error on the spreadsheet and indicated that I administered .5 units yesterday morning, which I did not. I wouldn't shoot him with that much insulin if he was in the 80s, which he was at that time. I ended up skipping both his shots yesterday. He was back up to 105 this morning. I guess my question was worded wrong, too. Yes, he had his dose of insulin the night prior, but I expected his number to be around 100 that morning. So I meant, how could his insulin be so low before he even got his morning dose of insulin?

I hear you on the in between tests and will comply. I have been hesitant to poke him so much because he developed an aversion to it. But I think I'm better at it now and his ears bleed more readily, so it should be ok to test more often.

I gave him his .5 this morning before reading this message. I will do a bunch of testing today to get a sense of how he responds.

Thanks again!

Hi Kate, Have you posted to this forum previously? If so, could you copy/paste that url into this new condo?

Also, could you please edit your title and add your kitty's name?

So hard to find your condo after a long day - so many posters on this forum...it was way way down and with no name, I had no idea who's thread it was...

Here's the reason I ask: https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/6-26-psa-please-read.231511/

Thanks so much!

You may also want to be sure to get some mid-cycle tests so as to avoid skipping at AM or PM times based on the number at that time...always try to base your dosage decisions on what's going on during the middle of the cycle.

And, one last question - are you planning on doing a curve anytime soon? It would be nice to follow along one day to see when he hits his nadir.

:)

Hi Sue, Thanks, I fixed the title, sorry about that.

Yes, I posted previously 3 times:

I guess based on my posting history, Baker sometimes has low numbers and I need to test more.

I'll try to do a curve today. I have all the excuses everyone does (a life) but I do need to understand how the insulin affects him.

Thanks!
Kate

Yes your numbers are beautiful!

But without those mid day tests we can’t tell how low this dose is taking him.

Don’t feel alone... we all have very full plates :bighug:

Lots of people including me have full time jobs, house holds, family and elderly parents to juggle...

I find that it helps me to set a timer...otherwise I’d forget to test...

Hang in there.:bighug:
