First time using pens

I can't tell if there is anything in them. I see a few tiny bubbles, but when I turn the pen, nothing moves. Is that normal? I am using syringes and the dose is 0.5.

Yes. As you draw insulin out, you will see a stopper start moving down. Make sure you do NOT inject air or insulin back into pen.

I did put a bit of insulin back into the pen before I read the instructions. Does that mean it's contaminated?

Not necessarily. Just make sure it's clear and no floaties. If it happens, then use new pen. I did that also at first, and husband did it the first time he gave the insulin. The pen stayed good. Just try not to do it anymore. The syringes have a silicone type coating, you don't want that going into the insulin pen.
