So opi is on day 3 of 14 of his antibiotics(metronidazole/fish oil). His BG is slowly creeping up shot times. I haven’t been able to test him much he has become aggressive and hides from me whenever possible. Wondering if his BG will go back down once he’s off the meds or will I need to increase his dose.

Minnie was on metronidazole and it never affected her bg. What’s he in for? It’s a very mild antibiotic but ECID. Are you having a hard time testing, meaning having to poke him multiple times to get a sample? I wonder where the aggression is coming from...? You’re giving a treat after right? Have you tried singing too?

The vet thought he might have a parasite or IBS since he had bad diarrhea. We started meds the diarrhea stopped but came back today. We have the liquid meds and it’s really bitter so he def doesn’t like me squirting it in his throat. His number have been creeping up slowly since starting the meds. He hit 200 today and we haven’t been that high in a while. He doesn’t eat treats at all(he hates soft ones and just doesn’t really want anything else and he won’t eat chicken anymore). Normally at test time he is waiting in his spot to be tested but since the meds I have to search for him and pick him to take him to be tested and he tries to bite and run away but I make sure to get them at shot times even though he fights but durning the day and night he goes in places I can’t reach him and won’t come out.

Can you switch to the pills? You can wrap it in a thin layer of pill pocket and pill him that way he won’t taste it. Or you can put it inside a gel capsule and pill him. Liquid bitter meds are horrible no wonder the poor thing is hiding. I tried that with once with Minnie and immediately switched to the pill version. Also, have you tried S Boulardii for stool control? It takes a few weeks but it works very well long term

I looked at the pill pockets yesterday and he normally won’t touch anything soft at all. We have been trying to switch foods since January and he wants nothing soft. I haven’t tried that before. I did buy fortiflora to trick him into eating his wet food and that didn’t work but I try that when the diarrhea was ongoing and the next day he struggled to poop.

Minnie stopped eating the pill pockets too, so that’s why I wrap a super thin lawyer around the pill. Just enough to cover it and I will either put it in the middle of her food so she eats it without even realizing because the smell is covered up, or if that doesn’t work I pull her with my hand. The pill pocket lawyer helps it go down faster and it keeps the med from starting to melt in her mouth giving out the bitter flavor. I stick it all the way at the back of her throat so she can’t bite it and spill it out.

have you tried Bonita flakes with the food?
