Yikes, seems like a big drop in only 2 hours. I just gave him a TBS of LC FF.

Planning to test in an hour but will try sooner if that is advisable. Still struggling with poking his ears. He flinches and jerks away, and/or pushes my hand away with his paw:(, so I know it is hurting him

Wanting to do TR for Charlie, but thinking I have more of a SLGS personality.....

Don’t make any decisions about methods right now. You can change your mind at any time. Please feed him a few teaspoons of lc food. That drop at +2 is a signal this will be an active cycle. I’d test in 30 minutes. Are you giving a treat after each poke? I don’t think it hurts but some cats aren’t used to having their ears touched. My civvie is one I have noticed as when I try to see if her allergy is acting up she doesn’t like it. If you can poke and get the blood on your finger you can draw up the blood that way.

Thanks Elise.

He at about a TBS LCFF and is at 71 @ +2.5 which makes me feel better but it looks like I'll need to test more frequently than I was planning today.

Charlie knows the drill for his tests and will generally sit still. He just jerks his head away when I poke so frequently I don't get good enough contact to get blood and have to poke again. The edges of his ears are all swollen and scabbed. I do hold tissue on the spot after each poke to help stop the blood. I use neosporin periodically but not every time and he does get a treat every time. He will actually "sit still" really great when I hold the strip to get the blood. It is just the poke process that is still really hard.

Back to 71. Will keep testing about every 30 minutes. I have read some other threads, but I'm new to using food to intervene. Will plan to give him a little LC or MC periodically based on most recent numbers though will probably switch to HC if he gets much below 60 unless advised otherwise. I'm not very clear on timing as far as how long food lasts to increase BG level. If there is a sticky or something that talks about I'd appreciate link or directions to find it.

Thanks!

YAY, hanging out at 71. I'm happy with that.

I'm also watching some other posts and Elise is BUSY today. I am so, so grateful for the guidance!

Up to 80 at +5. Do you think I'm safe to adjust testing to hourly? He's such a good kitty, but I think he's getting annoyed with me poking him every 30 minutes!

About 20 minutes to PM shot and Charlie is at 112. Last food was at about 3:30 (+9/9:15). Should I go ahead with .5, reduce to .25 or skip? He is quite a bit lower than last night with PMPS at 141.

Are you following TR? I don’t see an earned reduction. With SLGS which I think you are doing I would reduce to .25. Do you have supplies? Can you monitor? The depot will be in play.

You won’t need the ER. You could shoot a token skinny .25 and then decide in the morning what to do. Or you can skip and shoot .50 in the morning.

Why don’t you skip? It’s hard to shoot your lowest number at night. Then think overnight about whether you want to follow SLGS or TR.

Totally feel like a heel chickening out every time, especially when I see others shooting in the green all of the time. Sigh

You will get there. He’s so new to FD that you don’t have a lot to know how he will react or how easy it will be to bring him up. Enjoy your evening without thinking about FD. That’s my suggestion. Plus with SLGS he earned a reduction. Decide on that after a good night’s sleep.

Thank you for your support and encouragement, and thank you for sticking with us ALL day. I know you have been jumping back and forth between a couple of us. You must be exhausted. I hope you get sleep tonight too!

Humm, reduction with SLGS. That sounds promising :)
