Boing...boing...boing...
I wish we could have started the cycle off with lower numbers but she spiked between the +6 and AMPS cycle despite only giving her virtually no carb raw food only. Will see how she does today. Since she's in the yellow it will free me up to get some stuff done around here and no need for constant testing. I'll just feed her the raw/DM mix as usual while I wait for the Primal Frozen Raw Duck I ordered to come in. If they can get it, should be here by Thursday. I'm just wondering if the carb ratio is adequate at this point. Seems the DM, even though it's 7.5% carbs for the whole can which takes her 24 hours to eat, is too many carbs?? I wonder because of how she goes up so quickly mid cycle.

The duck is very low carb as it’s 96% protein. You can add pumpkin to it for extra carbs. Primal venison is higher carb, 93% but still low. Duck is 59 calories per nugget vs 45 for venison.

Any idea how much pumpkin to add to a day's serving? Actually, when I spoke to the gal at Primal yesterday she said the duck was their highest carb food at 2.8% per 3-4 nuggets which equals the 100grams they base all their carbs/calories on. She's currently on the turkey which is their lowest carb food of 0.04% for 3-4 nuggets. In your opinion is it that Olive need MORE carbs or LESS?

That’s weird as the bag shows it’s higher protein and higher fat. I don’t get it. I think maybe just calories might enable her to gain weight and tolerate more insulin but I’m no expert. How’s her stool? With all raw my cats have very dry stool so adding a teaspoon of pumpkin just made it a little softer but still dry. I stopped recently because one of mine has gained a little and I’m trying to keep her lean.

I know! That's why when I told her I needed to know exactly what the content was from HER MOUTH because the bags/website was just not doing it for me. She laughed and said they are confusing and that they have revamped from what's on the bag to what's on the website and I wouldn't let her off the line until she gave me a complete and accurate detail of all the foods at Primal. So it came direct from her. Her stool has been dry, but yesterday alone she pooped twice, which was amazing since she usually poops every few days since being on raw. It's big and thick now which is great too. I'll try the pumpkin. Like you, I'm just wondering if calories will do the trick. This whole carb thing is really getting me frazzled. Funny thing is she happily ate pure raw last night and today she said "Nope!" and had to mix with the DM regardless of what I wanted. I wanted to try feeding her DM/Raw mix up till the Nadir and then switch to the raw for the rest of the cycle so it's less carbs. But Olive isn't cooperating today. I can't wait for the scale to arrive so I'll know if she's gaining or not. The vet also didn't tell me how much she SHOULD weigh, just that she'd lost a lot and needs to gain some weight back. Seeing as she held 14 pounds for years after we got her down from the 18 she was when we adopted her, and then dropped to 9.5 at onset, I'm guessing a good couple pounds at least.

Is she a large cat? My vet wants my two under 9 pounds. They make me feel like I’m starving them to keep them that low.

Yes, she is a large cat. I think under 9 pounds is too low for big cats. Regular size yes, but not when your cat started at 18 (speaking of my cat here), thrived at 14 and looked great, and is now 9.5 and looks too thin to be a healthy weight. My friend was just over who got to see Olive for the first time in 3 weeks and she commented how she needs to get some weight on as she doesn't look great by comparison to her old self and she thought maybe 2-3 pounds would be just right. As I'm learning, you've got to do what YOU think is right over the vet. I'm going to try getting Olive up to 12 pounds because she's always been a big cat and the weight she's at right now doesn't look good.

I know she’s way underweight. My tortie was best at 10-12. I like a little extra meat on them but not to the point of being overweight. Max was large and 13-14 was good.

Hope it's okay to send photos on here. This is Olive, our Tortie when we adopted her at 18 pounds. She's half this weight now. The profile image is current so just look at her skinny face now. It's all skin that's flopping around as she walks now. I think all torties look better with some weight on them. Nothing drastic. She looked amazing at 14 pounds. Will look for a photo at that weight. Nice and healthy. So we're shooting for at minimum 12 pounds.

When you can post a picture of her now and like you said at 14. I’m betting somewhere in between might be good. As she gains weight you can judge her ideal weight better. She’s beautiful!

So happy pics are okay. Here she is at 14 pounds.. If you look at her collar in the profile image, it's hanging loosely.

And the second image (profile picture) you can see her at 9.5 pounds. That loose collar is the dead giveaway. I think she looked best at 14 pounds. If you were to stand above her as she walks you can see the sunken area around her hips were fat used to be. I hate it.
