So it was a crazy evening for us as a family. Somehow, our dog made his way into the cat food and ate what was left of the bag. He has a history of pancreatitis, so my wife and I were pretty concerned and have been keeping an eye out for him and behavior all last night and this morning. So far, so good, but we are continuing to monitor that situation. With him getting into Peeka's food, that left her without anything to get her through the night, so my wife made a trip to the store and wound up purchasing Fancy Feast Pate Classic chicken. Peeka has already gone through 3 cans from last nights dinner to this mornings breakfast and snacks.

I'm fairly sure that is why her numbers were a little bit lower than normal this morning, which was a welcome surprise. Her normal PS was 199, and when I tested a little bit later before feeding, she was at 245, so I felt more comfortable giving her normal dose.

So anyways, that's where things currently are. My main concern at the moment is our dog and him getting into the Dr. Elsey's which has considerably more fat content than his normal diet. The new bag of Dr. Elsey's should be getting in today or tomorrow, so until then, we will just keep her on the FF diet. Although, she may not want to change back!

HA thats the same thing that happened to Trouble. He had his very first can of wet food when he developed diabetes (thanks to the good folks here) He scarfed that can in seconds (just like a dog would) but dont be too sure about Peeka giving up completely on the dry. But why reintroduce it? I didnt with Trouble. He would sit longingly looking at the spot where his dry food use to sit. :p Ahhhh memories!

I do hope your dog doesnt have problems from a whole bag of dry...cat food. If he starts meowing, its a vet psychologist trip. Vet costly.
Sorry I'm making light of a serious situation to give you something to laugh about. I do hope he suffers no repercussions. DOGS!

Could just be familiarity. We have considered leaving the Dr. Elsey's out during the day for them to munch on, when Peeka is able to graze and jump on the chairs and tables again. We honestly haven't really had the conversation yet about switching over to wet food.

No worries, he has just had pancreatitis 3 times before and we are hoping to avoid a vet trip and the costs associated.

THIS sounds like a good plan but I have to say it *might* keep her numbers in a higher bracket. Theres only one way to find that out. I dont think it would hurt to try.

3 times? Awww poor doggie. :(

I'm sure we will talk it over this weekend. It's my first weekend off since she started developing really bad neuropathy, and outside of our baby shower, I'll be able to keep an eye on her and her levels. Planning another curve tomorrow as I am able to with the guests driving through (darn you Covid!)
