9/22 - this poor guy will not come out of these high numbers

Hi All - increased to 2.5u on 9/20. Wasn't able to get any mid-cycle tests in yesterday due to work. Did get the PMPS 434 and a +2 before bed 398.

Today:
AMPS 494
+2 389
+4 354
+6 422

I'll say this at least Lantus has a very gentle curve. I am working on switching him to wet food! Doing pretty good so far. :) I know this is going to take time. I've been reviewing other's posts and see it takes some kitties months. Question though, why do some kitties switch from Lantus to Levemir?

Yes, switching from dry to wet can be quite the task. I was able to switch my glutton civvie almost overnight, but my sugar kitty Bandit refuses to look at wet food.

Lantus has an acidic base that causes a sting at higher doses. That's usually the reason for the switch. Some bouncy cats also flatten out on Levemir (not all do) and that's another reason people switch.

Thankfully he's doing good, no dry food since yesterday. Hoping we can switch over to TR with his change to wet food. :)

I'm not Chris, but I'd suggest a couple of days after you stop feeding dry food before switching to TR. It can take that long for the effects to work out of the system.

My girl wasn't on a particularly high dose at the time I switched to Levemir (1.25 units). Though she had been on higher doses with Lantus and did get higher again for a while on Levemir. Many people with cats on higher doses (north of 6 units) do find that their cat twitches, runs away, or somehow objects to the Lantus and it's acid base. It also happens occasionally for cats on smaller doses. Lyane found she had to stop giving injections to @Ti-Mousse because he objected so much. I was lucky in that Neko on Levemir was much flatter, her cycles more predictable because they were flatter. It meant I got more sleep at night. :) However, unless a cat is reacting to the Lantus, or gets to higher doses, we suggest giving it six months. It can take a cat a while to learn how to work with the insulin and Diago has been on it such a short period of time.

Thank you so much @Wendy&Neko! Sounds good. I'll give it a few days for sure before we make any changes. I hopefully won't need to switch to levemir just curious as I'm getting ready to order 5 pens from the Marks Marine pharmacy in Canada.

I meant to ask, did you gradually make the food change? Just wondering how you did it. If he wasn't on much dry before yesterday, you may not have to wait as long. It can be really helpful to put notes on food or medication changes in the Remarks section of the spreadsheet, so that those of us looking at it can take them into consideration. For example, if yesterday was the first day on all low carb wet, that's worth a comment.

He was eating ~1/2 can of wet food daily for the last year or so. I always left out the Dr. Elsey's dry so he could have that anytime. Overnight he finished the dry and I've set out wet food for him and he's been eating that throughout the day. He let me know when the bowl is empty lol. I'll definitely make a note in the ss, I'd hate to start seeing lower numbers and not remember we made the switch.

This is definitely new territory for us to only give him wet so I'll have to work on schedule, etc for him. Also, my lovely girl kitties are all about the FF chicken pate so it looks like I'll have autoship ON from Chewy.com.

Question though, why do some kitties switch from Lantus to Levemir?
I had to switch my Ti-Mousse from Lantus to Levemir. He was on 1u only but could not stand the shot... I was at the beginning of treating him and thought I was not shooting OK and that was why he was hiding and always growling at shot time...!! After a little over a month I switched him to Levemir... WOW! Not hiding and no growling anymore, just lying down on his testing mat and waiting for me to test and give him his shot..!

ECID, some cats do very well on Lantus, mine could not stand it even if they say it's stinging only on high doses..

Oh I hope he doesn't start doing this. I'm literally getting ready to place an order. Fingers crossed.
