@AndreaJ

As for treats I see some members buy these and they will buy the same one for dogs they are exactly the same just bigger, so break them up, you will get more for your money, check it out on the Chewy site
PureBites Chicken Breast Freeze-Dried Raw Cat Treats

VitalEssentials is also another good freeze dried brand. .One of our members says hercat loves the minnow flavor

Thank you!!! I am going to call Chewy to see if they will let me return these. I haven't opened them yet.

That said, I tested Halo's blood sugar this morning before his insulin - up to 553!!! (Last night it was about 388).

Metabolic Feline Treats
HILL'S PRESCRIPTION DIET

Andrea are these the treats you are talking about?
I just found this posted by another member here, this is what she said

Have also realized that his Hill’s metabolic rx treats are most likely full of carbs. Going to order pure bites and hope he loves them.

I don't know if my reply got posted. I don't see it. I am returning the Hill's to Chewy since they have yet to be open and picking up the PureBites Minnow treats. Also, I tested Halo this morning before his shot - 553! Last night it was at 388. Very happy he seems to be handling testing well though. He growled a little this morning, but I don't think he's feeling the greatest and that's why.

Hi Andrea,

I am also a newbie using prozinc. My cat does not follow the expected curves, and is throwing me for a ride..., but you might find this figure helpful to know what to expect in terms of BG readings overtime. It also illustrates why is important to have reading throughout the day to know how low kitties BG are going on a certain dose:

Andrea when you want to reply to a specific person , hit reply and then start typing what you want to say

Andrea what is your shooting times, you said you tested and got 279
How many hours was that after you shot the insulin
This is how you should put it until you set a spreadsheet up
EXAMPLE
AMPS-553 ( let's say you shoot at 8:00 AM )
Then when you tested and got that 279 ( let's say that was at 10:00 AM)
So you would put (EXAMPLE ONLY)
8:00 AM AMPS-553
@+2 - 279. (That means 2 hours later)
When you get your spreadsheet set up you don't have put your AM shorting time or your PM shorting time

If you don't post it like this for now member won't know how many hours this drop was and will be kind of difficult to help you

Take a look at anyone's spreadsheet to see what I'm talking about.
We also make comments in the remarks column on the spreadsheet

Hello Diane,

I am editing my spreadsheet on my own computer. But his latest reading was:

AMPS-553 ( let's say you shoot at 8:00 AM )
@+2 - 279. (That means 2 hours later)
@+6 - 361

Thanks,
Andrea

Hello Diane,

I give him his insulin at 4:25 a.m. and 4:25 p.m. I am MASSIVELY frustrated right now. I got this DAMNED Alphatrak rip off thing and the battery is already going dead!!!! WTAF. And I have tried to test him three more times and he growls and I can't get blood and I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE HIM MISERABLE AND HATE ME.

I am really pissed.

I am hoping he takes to the Freestyle Libre.

I am going to keep trying, of course, but need to go to the drugstore to buy a new battery. I mean, I got this g-damned thing YESTERDAY!!!!!

Now, I appreciate your advice but I am at flipping wits end and am signing off for now.

Thank you.

I would not be surprised if he is higher at PMPS, looks like he's starting to bounce from that big drop. Forgive me if it's already listed above (this thread is getting a little long - might want to make a new one soon) but make sure to feed throughout the day starting at +2 to help slow the drop. Very possible he needs less insulin, we will have to see.

Hi Elizabeth it looks like Andrea is pissed off right now see #65

@Panic
She said she shoots at 4:25 AM and 4:25 PM
So here is what I understand with what she posted
4:25 AMPS-553
@+2 279 6:25 AM
@+6 361 10:25 AM
This is in #60
So its 3:35 in Minnesota right
So she should be shooting in an hour for PMPS
Since she said she's signing off for now I hope she feeds him something @+2 like you suggested and after that to slow the drop

Hi, I am back! I was just frustrated. Got new batteries. I am feeding him multiple times when he seems to be asking for food. He eats small bits: Tuna, Sardines, and the Tiki stuff he gets when he has his shot. I *just* tested him before giving him his shot, he is at 306 right now - 11 hours and 45 minutes after his last shot. I haven't given him his insulin yet. I am going to be doing so in five minutes.

Best,
Andrea

Totally understand , we know you weren't frustrated with us, don't worry about :cat:

Oh boy, I have went thru so many blood glucose strips in just 24 hours trying to test Halo with that awful Alpha Trak! Anyway, I just purchased 50 more at a $1 a strip (UFFDA!!!)

I did a quick search on here, but am too exhausted to dig further - do you use human glucose meters? I just cannot afford using Alphatrak at this point. I feel terrible, but at $1 a strip and about half of them don't register or I get error codes, I feel like I'm burning money. I sure wish I could afford to! (I have to think positively that God will provide, but I also want to be sensible.)

Thanks,
Andrea

Oh yes, can you cancel that Alphatrak order? Just go to Walmart and pick up a ReliOn Prime meter ($9) and 100 strips ($18). We can't afford those Alphatrak strips here either!

Darn! I invested so much money in that awful AlphaTrak meter, I am going to get one set of test strips and then switch to the ReliOn prime meter. Thank you!!! I just want to get Halo on the right foot, but my goodness, it is crazy how expensive they are!!! Thank you for that tip!

All our dosing protocols (guidelines) are written with human glucose meters in mind. Another reason for not using the pet meter.

I am going to be getting the human glucose meter in about a couple of months as I have invested in it and many strips already :(. BUT here's what happened. I was SO FRUSTRATED WITH IT. I had to get new batteries immediately. So I called their customer service line, they replaced the whole thing. It just arrived today and I immediately tested Halo. SO MUCH EASIER! I think I got a returned/refurbished one from Chewy the first time around. :nailbiting:

I am really, really happy with this one now. It was super easy, I used the lancet alone and Halo didn't even flinch.

But, as soon as I use up all my strips - off to Walmart I go for the Relion version.

Thank you for all your advice!!!
