Good morning everyone its been a while but I have an important question, not sure what is going on here....

So, Brady was at the vets getting 2.5 U while we went away for a couple days, he was there friday morning until Monday morning. His shot was given at 830 in the morning 2.5 U at the vets and I picked him up around 10 in the morning. When I got him home he was 321 then stayed in the yellows pretty much the rest of the day. We give Brady his shot at 545-600 AM and PM cycle. So we decided not to give him a shot last night to get him on schedule again today. However, he was fed his normal food times here at home. So about an hour or so after he got home he at 1/4 can of food. Then at his normal feeding time in the evening he got his 3/4 can of food and another 1/4 can at night before I went to bed. Fiskies low carb food is what we give him.

We woke up this morning, and what did we get but a very nice reading of 206, waited about a half hour or so while he ate and finished up and took it again and he was only 216. I use the relion prime meter, however, I also have the Alpha Trac 2 and took his sugar with that, it was only 280.

Here is where our cluelessness comes in, should he not have been extremely high this morning since he had not had any insulin for almost 22 hours????

This shocked us a little bit because he was way lower than expected so we only gave him 1.5 U this morning at his shot time......Looking for any opinion as to why he was this low this morning without having any insulin for 22 hours but continued to eat at his normal food times.

Hope eveyone is well and their kitties are doing well also.

    @Marje and Gracie @Deb & Wink @Panic

I just tagged you guys this afternoon since I didnt get any responses....maybe you three could shed some light on my question.....hope you are all doing well

Sorry, I never got this tag! Just stumbled over here. Ugh, thought the tags were finally working again.

Flat yellows can often indicate an active next cycle but hm ... not sure what to tell you since you skipped! Try to get some +2 in to see what's going on.

Thank you for getting back....I thought I lost eveyone since nobody was responding....ugggh.......

Yes we held off on the shot the day he got back from the vet...last night....I dont know either, 22 hours and he was only 206....Right now he isnt eating so hot, little worried.....doesnt seem himself, hoping its just due to the vet boarding....but he didnt have a problem last time and was there longer.......this up and down emotions are so difficult, I almost couldnt eat dinner cause now im worried.......

But tonight he was only 220 after giving 1.5 U this morning...so I only gave 2 U tonight......we will see what happens, like I said more concerned with how he is acting...just not himself today......

Do you have any ketostix to rule that out? Wonder if he's just upset about all the changes.

Oh yes, I always check him, especially when he goes high....Always negative......But honestly, 22 hours and no insulin and he was only 206 at shot time, it was scary and exciting all in one.....Right away that low number with no insulin just had my mind racing, it gave me a worry.......

Well today isnt a good day, Brady isnt eating anything, and I have tried everything....Took him to the vet this morning....Negative ketones, temp was perfect, no pain in the belly area....Vet thinks it may be a touch of pancreatitis. She gave him some fluids and some cerenia....And also took blood work....He nibbled a bit on some chicken but not much.....Im really worried this time, he is putting his nose up to everything, even the MC and HC food.......Hopefully these fluids and medicine kick in and it is just taking a little time to work....Im scared!!!

Is she going to run a pancreatitis test? If it is pancreatitis he'd benefit from painkillers. Though I know some cats just have very small flare ups, I'm not sure what the protocol is for managing if it's just a little one. @Red & Rover (GA) ?

Yes she ran the panc test as well as a full count...she wants he back on 1/4 tablet of cerenia as well....He did eat this evening after my post, my wife ran to the store and we got some new MC food that we never used before, still Friskies, but he ate it.....Again he didnt have any insulin this morning becasue he didnt eat and his numbers are not out the roof, a little high 326 but again I was expecting real high numbers....I just dont get these lower numbers...and again not super low or close to normal, but my Brady likes to go high and he is surprising me with these numbers...guess confusing is a better word.....

How are you doing Elizabeth....I know its been a while....hope all is well down there in your neck of the woods

Yeah I would keep checking for ketones ... no food + not enough insulin + infection = DKA. It might help to post on the main forum for advice ... you don't want to be inviting ketones by lowering the dose ... hmmmm. They say they don't have a definite cause for pancreatitis but I wonder if stress doesn't play a role sometimes. Brady isn't the first kitty I've heard of that came home from a vet visit with pancreatitis.

I'm managing haha, thanks for asking. Main Health has had me busy, Hurricane Sally is rolling in (we're not in any danger, we just get lots of rain and wind), and got a kitten getting a respiratory PCR panel done for a persistent URI. Keeps me busy.

Yes I do check him for ketones, not every day but quite a bit....I will be checking him a litte more now.....With him not eating so hot, but I felt he ate enough tonight to give him some insulin. Lowered just cause he is being a little wacky right now with numbers. I think I failed to mention he did have two hairballs that he left us on the floor one on tuesday some time and one this morning around 4 AM.....that could be it too....but hoping its nothing to serious.....

Yes I saw you are from SC, I was thinking that Sally was heading your direction....I used to go to a little town of Estill down that way, out of the way place for sure...lol.....Stay safe and take care of that kitty....

Yeah I would just stay on top of it to be on the safe side ... did your vet run a Spec fPL? I know painkillers does a world of good for pancreatitis kitties and getting them to want to eat so maybe he just needs a little help.

Yep we got the flash flood warnings a couple hours ago, then the rain started ... going to rain all weekend I imagine. It's fine though, we're very far inland, no where near the coast. At most we get some knocked over branches in the road and some wet socks. Thanks Pat!

For those following along....Brady is back in the hospital today, he ended up having pancreatitis, he just wouldnt eat, so now he is getting fluids and meds.....Not sure what to feed him...if the friskies is good for diabetic/pancreatic cat.....or if something else should be used that can stay in my budget.....
