Hey everyone!

I'm here via Diabetic Cats in Need; I'm a new volunteer with them. Previously I oversaw feline medical at a rescue that had over 20 diabetic cats in my time there. I've had two diabetic cats of my own: Snowcrash, who sadly passed from cancer this January; and Emily, who thankfully is diet-controlled and has never needed insulin.

I'm extremely fortunate that my vet is one of the authors of the 2018 AAHA Diabetic Guidelines.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and helping as much as possible!

Some info about me: I'm disabled and have chronic medical issues, which is one reason I love helping cats with medical needs. My husband and I have 6 cats:
  • Emily, female Age 11: stomatitis, IBD, pancreatitis, hyperthyroid, diet-controlled diabetes
  • Ethel, female age 12+: Hypothyroid
  • Zathras, male age 12: stomatitis
  • Cinnamon, female age 11: IBD
  • George, female age 9: FIV+, semi-feral
  • Yato, male age 6: FIV+, asthma
We also have two TNRed male feral cats we care for and are working to tame, Inigo and Julian. George and Yato used to be part of our feral colony.

Other than cats, I'm passionate about human rights, native plants and fighting invasive plants outside, belly dancing, and the video game Dragon Age: Inquisition.

I wanted to share this picture of Emily and Snowcrash, taken last fall. Emily is the grey kitty, Snowcrash is the white & black one. She was very bonded with him and was constantly by his side when he became ill in early 2019. It was very touching to see how much she cared for him. She was depressed after we lost him in January and was on mirtazepine for about 2 months. She's doing much better now overall, though she was just diagnosed with hyperthyroid about 2 months ago. That seems controlled now though.

Even though it's been 8 months now, I still miss Snowcrash. He was extremely ill his final year and required a lot of care; and we were so blessed that he was a good patient and let us do everything possible for him. He was a good little dude.
