We need to be overly aggressive today. Let him eat. We can try testing every 20 mins...if you're comfortable with that.So after bumping lets see what happens in 20min

Try to stay ahead of him. the only downfall to testing this frequently is it may not catch the entire food bump. May catch the start of it which would incline us to food bump again according to #s. I don't care though....he needs to come up. More bumping more chances for climbing #s

Let him eat the HC w/ honey everytime until we see improvement. But don't overfeed. we're depending on him to eat.
When we use carbs alone to bump #s it can take 30 mins to see the effect...that's why we test every 30min. When using honey alone I've been instructed every 15mins...hits quicker and is outta the bloodstream quicker.
since we're using both honey and carbs I'd feel better about more frequent testing. Sorry:(

I may have missed this and apologize in advance. What percent carbs is the HC you're using? And are you using calipers for dosing? Trying to figure out if this is the old depot or perhaps you have terribly inaccurate insulin syringes.

H/C is his beloved W/D diet still left over from when his vet recommended it (pre=dX). It's 22%; perhaps next time less honey? Yesterday he was harder to bring back up.
I have ordered calipers but they won't arrive until sometime next week, I believe.

Nice response. the reason i said more honey is because it didn't seem the amount yesterday gave enough of a buffer. Trying to give enough of a buffer so when he does start dropping again until nadir he'll have a bit of a cushion. Re-test in 20mis and we'll go from there. Hopefully after this next test we can reduce testing times.

Were going to follow protocol with this. Since Milo got a rising # don't feed until next test in 20 min. See what the #s do...let them dictate. In my brain Milo's going to drop back down until nadir time. He's going to prolly need to be bumped more.

I think crisis averted and he's got plenty of buffer to drop if he decides to. Sorry I got overly aggressive. Just didn't want Milo hanging out in the 40s.
If you get a rising # on the next test than withhold food again and re-test in 1 hour. If everything looks good resume normal schedule;)

One thing I forgot to mention is Milo may have earned another reduction. I'm not 100% because he was one hour short of the 24 hour cycle period today. He dropped AMPS +4 yesterday and AMPS +3 today. I don't like how close he was to the 30s either time he dropped. 30s is an automatic reduction no questions asked. Back to back reductions is not recommended cause they usually don't hold.
I'm going to tag @Marje and Gracie to see what she thinks. Hold the dose cause it wasn't "technically" earned or maybe err on the side of caution because you can always go back up in dose. Plus Milo's appy is hit and miss sometimes.

I'm doing fine, thanks. I'm not the least bit concerned about being a bit more aggressive today with the honey. He was dropping faster than yesterday and I didn't want a repeat of hanging out so low... Milo's great. His brother was throwing up so there's that to keep an eye on. Plus a wet dog from having a much-hated bath. I'm exhausted! Time to put some wine in the fridge!

I'm back and he's 202 @ +6.
Sorry...you meant tomorrow... I will be gone until about +10 tomorrow. I have a bit of wiggle room for leaving. No later than +4 though

I’m thinking the old depot was in play. I’d say don’t decrease but I’m not sure only because you won’t be around tomorrow. How long will you be away?

I'm not a fan of back to back reductions. Perhaps some of the experienced ones will come on in a bit and share their opinions...per the guidelines, the reduction can be taken at 3 x under 50 OR 1 x under 40 for cats who've shown they don't hold reductions well, Luci is one of those cats...

And how well Milo responds to high carb foods. It appears from the action today that he pulled right back up after being fed HC food with a little honey...and is still climbing.

He cleared that bounce in record time too! So that tells me that likely the depot is in play. Personally, I would not decrease the dose but I would have my alarm set for testing duty tonight. Milo may well bounce again this evening and into tomorrow after hitting that low again today...so making the decision to shoot the same dose tonight will be easier...but I'd sure keep a close eye on him.

It's a little early for us to see how well he handles dose reductions - but the final decision is up to his mama...she holds the syringe and will the one sticking around to supervise. Did I see somewhere in the many conversations above that she's going to be out tomorrow? Or was that today?

If so, and she has to be away tomorrow, then perhaps a reduction would be a better idea...let's get clarification on mama's ability to test tomorrow. Milo has already shown us how fast he is to clear a bounce...no time to be testing the shark infested waters of the lagoon...

You and I agree. If nobody else chimes in she could reduce tonight and same dose tomorrow morning and if numbers go up take him back up at night. Another option would be to feed grand have her son continue after she leaves depending on when she gets home. Then again maybe the old depot will be gone by mornings. She will leave at +3 but I don’t know for how long.

Just checking back to see what’s happening. I hope all is good because I dint see more tests here or on the ss.

Sorry....just back. He's 203. I gave 3.25u and I will set my alarm to see how he's doing in the night. Tomorrow I will be out from +3 or +4 until +11 and leaving out frozen food. I will check in tomorrow morning about what to do...
Thanks for all the support today.
