hi! I'm new and have a newly diagnosed cat. I was given a meter from an acquaintance last weekend and was told it was an AlphaTRAK2 which I had extra strips for. Long story short, it was not an AlphaTRAK. It is a Henry Schein Vet glucometer and it came with a bottle of 25 strips. I went online to order more strips for it and they do not exist. You can barely even find any info on the meter itself. So now I'm down to one test strip and need to get a new one asap. I checked around yesterday and was blown away by how many there are and that they basically all use their own strips and they are not interchangeable. That is seriously disturbing btw and I feel horrible for humans with diabetes that have to deal with that. Anyway, I saw the Countour brand and saw the strips were very affordable. The lady that helped me said that you're basically paying for the memory that the meter holds. So the more memory it holds, the more expensive it is. So if I'm keeping a spreadsheet, she said I don't need anything expensive or fancy. She said the main thing to look for is the amount of blood needed.
Does anyone use the Contour brand and if so, what do you think of it. I have a friend who has a brand new Libre for me but I won't get it for a few days to a week and need something to use in the mean time.........
Also, is it hard doing the conversions? I suck at math and with numbers in general and I haven't had the time to research this site to see if it is fairly easy to do or not since I've been using a pet meter and had planned to keep using it in the future.
Thanks in advance for any advise/help/suggestions.
