Should I switch next snack to HC or another MC (doesn’t seem to be having a big effect right now) Or do I skip the snack and see what her numbers do in the next little bit? I can keep testing every 30 minutes

She's later in the cycle. I'm scared HC might interrupt her trying to surf some. Don't feed and get a test in 30. see where she's going
Tminus 10 or so minutes until next test. I wondered the same about the HC ruining her surf but she does have a late nadir (typically) so I anticipate a PJ party tonight! I’d like it if she’s surfing more at a 70 but she often seems to ride those 50s o_O

There's more than one way to approach this. If you want her surfing higher...bump her with a lil MC. Than the cycle re-starts as far as testing.
Once you get a rising # you can withhold food, test in 30 mins. If you get another rising # than you again, don't feed and re-test in 1 hour. The idea is to get rising #s w/o food in a 2 hour period. If #s aren't rising you feed til you get that rising #. You always have the option to bump the # higher with carbs, just have to test a lil longer, ' cause each time you feed it resets the testing cycle. hope that made sense.
You know Kitten better than me. If you feel she needs to be bumped more 'cause of late nadir...by all means. Know thy cat;)

ETA: eek that was supposed to have one more 30min test before the 1 hour test. So 2, 30 min test w/o food than the 1 hour

Thank you for the info. I just tested again and she’s 52 so I decided to bump her with a heaping teaspoon of HC (Friskies salmon with gravy). Long night ahead of us and it’s nearly midnight (I’ll scratch the idea of going to bed anytime soon )

so after this since I just fed her, I test at +7 & + 7.5 (no food either time) and so long as numbers are rising I can then look to test at +8.5?

Yeah look likes she's gonna play around until nadir. So, the HC should bring that # up a good amount. Depending on that # on the next test is when I'd make a decision. If she's going to keep wanting to drop until nadir when you withhold food, you may be in for a late night unfortunately. You may have to keep bumping her.

Kitten's gonna be in for a nice soothing ear rub tomorrow...if she'll allow it

So to recap: Got a 52 @+6.5 bumped w/ HC
Re-test @+7 depending on # and how you feel about her cycle determines if you continue bumping and testing.

Oh Kitten but oh Elisa :banghead:.. I just realized when I went to clean the autofeeder that I forgot to reprogram it back on Sunday (went out late Saturday night) so yesterday and today she wasn’t getting her AM +5.5 snack (but got an extra PM snack last night) I wonder if that had an effect (affect?) on today’s super surf/reduction earned

She dropped Saturday during the AM cycle same time. Was the auto feeder time messed up then? Food does play an important role
No it was set normal on Saturday. I was out late that night so I set it up at open again at +7.5 PM cycle (taking away the +5.5AM) so technically Sunday and today she missed that morning later AM snack

+7/54 I think I’m fighting insulin at this point! Thoughts on giving her the rest of the HC (Another teaspoon) and start over the timings or hold off on food and see what +7.5 is? She’s gotten a lot of food but little bump in her numbers! She’s also resorted to hiding under the bed... she’s tired of the testing! (But still being a good girl and letting me test)

Just a tip....a drop or 2 of Karo/honey/Maple syrup/sugar syrup added to the food can bump #s more. If you're not getting a decent effect from what food you have on hand, the aforementioned comes in handy.

RE: percentage of HC: I don’t have it written down but I know I picked it up because I saw someone here using it - whiskas portion size in gravy. I gave kitten a whole portion of the salmon in gravy and added a tiny bit of corn syrup. If that doesn’t do much I have friskies extra gravy chunky I can give her.

Alrighty. The carbs are generally found in the gravy part of the food. Giving her the gravy should help to preserve lil chunk a monks appetite.

Sorry I'm full of useless information and getting punchy:p:p:p

Here's a cat food chart for ya if you don't have it. come in handy

+7.5/54 - not the time to continue surfing Kitten! I gave her some of the gravy from that friskies can as a treat after another poke.. going to see if her number rises at +8 since her HC was a bit in between +7 to +7.5
The dogs are wandering around so confused as to why we’re still up (I’m dog sitting this week so it’s a full zoo with the additional dog)

Can't find the carb % on the whiskas but it 4th ingredient is tapioca starch. Should be some carbs in there.
The friskies looks to have 3 different carbs might be more effective

Looks like +8/+9 is when she likes to nadir the lil scamp. I hate to shoot her to the moon so I'll hold off on having you add a lil corn syrup. Need to see what the friskies does first. I suspect the Whiskas is MC.

I'm soooo very sorry:arghh:
It’s no surprise to me kitten is late on her nadir and causes me stress...god love that cat but she is the reason I can’t own nice things, or have hair elastics in the house (or any loose string or rubber band for that mater), or have exposed electrical cords or now.. sleep! Lol I love her so much and she truly is a kitten at heart, but boy she causes me stress (and a small fortune)!

I know the feeling. We haven't bought new furniture because of our cats. I love them but, they can be incredibly destructive. I don't think we have an exposed piece of wood w/o claw marks come to think of it:rolleyes:

K don't want to get you/us in trouble for chitty chatting. I'm being bad

Woohoo...the friskies is the ticket. Don't feed get another in 30. If you see a big move in #s I think she's close enough to nadir that you can wait an hour to re-test. Don't feed though. Should've tried that darn Friskies first. Lessons learned

I didn’t realize the whiskas wasn’t as HC as I thought! Sigh but yes lesson learned! Monster will get to enjoy some gravy portions and I’ll be stocking up on the chunky gravy friskies for my hypo kit
