?? Suggestions - Numbers Dropping - Have to leave alone

Phoenix's numbers are dropping since I stopped giving him snacks throughout the day. This week, I have a car repair scheduled for early in the morning. It is my only car. I have to wait on the repair. I live in a rural area where I can't locate a Uber or other taxi service.

I will probably be gone for about 5 hours. Phoenix's numbers always are lower in the morning. Do you think if I fed him a huge breakfast and left extra meat for him when I was leaving, it would keep his numbers in the safe range?

I know he will eat all the food immediately. He always does. I am worried he might throw up if I give him too much to eat. I can't give him dry food because of pancreatitis. Do you think he will be okay for me to leave? Any suggestions will be appreciated. I will be so glad to get this repair over with.

Do you have a previous post? For historical reference? Have you posted to this forum before?

It doesn't look like he's been dropping terribly low until much later in the day - would you say his lowest numbers have been around 4 or 5+?

I don't suppose you have an auto-feeder for such occasions? I have to use one when we're both gone for several hours - for peace of mind...very handy to have.

You'll have to make a judgement call in the morning before you leave - if you're looking a low number you may want to add a medium or high carb food to the breakfast - just to make sure he stays higher until you get back. Food props only last for a few hours at most - should give you enough time to get home.

Here is the link to your last post here. https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/can-insulin-make-a-cat-mean.232746/ I hope Phoenix is reacting better to the insulin now. Another tip is to warm it slightly by holding the end of the syringe with the insulin in between your fingers for a few moments. That also seems to help the sting at higher doses.

As for dose - it doesn't look like 7 units is taking him any lower than high blues. I don't think I'd be worried too much about leaving him. If you don't have an autofeeder (a must acquisition if you don't have one yet), then freeze some food (half food/half water) in ice cube trays and leave a couple cat foodsicles for him to eat as they thaw out. That should slow down his eating.

Excellent idea with the foodsickles! Why didn't I think of that? I routinely freeze chicken hearts in ice cube trays for him to lick on outside. Here in Texas, the temperature is around 95 - 103 degrees. When I let Phoenix outside in the evening, I give him one to lick on until he comes back inside.

We have lots of helpful tips and tricks. I hope you'll post again today - when you get back from your car repairs and let us know how it all went. Please post your new condo today with this title: 8/17 Phoenix AMPS ###

It's really very helpful to you if you post frequently and participate with the forum - you'll find that you'll get to know others and how they're handling this very sort of thing.

Looking forward to seeing your new condo/thread later today. Good luck with the car :)

Any update on how things went today? Looks as if there was a higher number when you arrived home than when you left...
