08/12 Milo +11.5 119, AMPS 176, +1 205, +2 214, +4 202, +5.75 229

We'll see what the others have to say....I say are you ready to get your feet wet? 112 is a safe # to shoot since you're following TR protocol. You have plenty of data. You can monitor and steer the cycle if needed. You have plenty of test strips, MC/HC food and karo if needed. Not trying to scare you just making sure you're prepared. How do you feel about shooting a 112?

Another option if you're a lil wary about shooting is to stall for 15 minute w/o feeding. What this can do is show you if #s are coming up. Unfortunately sometimes #s will decline some because of the fasting period(no food in their system).

WTG! Nice job shooting. I thought Milo would start to climb a bit. But, just because he's climbing now doesn't mean he won't drop still. It's hard to predict cycles sometimes because these kitties can be tricky. That's why testing is so important. The more data you collect in different scenarios can offer you peace of mind when facing another "lower" than normal PS. Data data data. You'll get sick of hearing it:p

Maybe you could all help me understand about shooting. I reread the TR protocol and it says to ask before shooting if it’s below 150 as a newbie. At this point with Milo’s SS, do we have a sense of when it should be ok to shoot him when he’s in the blue? I know it also depends on if I can stick around to monitor him.

I don't yet know enough myself to answer your question, Sam, but as you note, an important part of it is that you can monitor. From my experience, also learning how Milo reacts to LC, MC and HC food will help you understand how you can use those foods to steer his numbers in case he does drop lower. Recording what you feed him and when would help you be able to look back and see how he reacts. He may not react the same all the time, but good to have as much data as possible.

My 2 cents!

You need some more data shooting blues. You have some good data, just not much shooting blues. Once you gain more experience understanding how the insulin effects Milo....what time is onset, does he get a food bump and when, is he carb sensitive, how's his duration and "typical" nadir....then you'll start to see what's safe for you to shoot.
Bottom line, you're in control of the cycle. With testing, proper food intervention/propping and KNOWING your cat shooting blues and greens is possible.

I think you are beginning to see that it’s okay to shoot the blue numbers. You can gradually reduce the number at which you ask for help. Of course you can ask at any time. When busy around here or if lots of us aren’t on line you might not get an answer soon enough so as mentioned, knowing how he reacts to lc, mc , hc will make it easier. For me I was okay shooting because Max was carb sensitive.

Take it one blue shot at a time. Eventually, you will know how Milo is going to react to different foods. And you will know to steer and with what food (keep notes).

Another thing you can do is after awhile lower your no shot number. Example-today is 112, so you would shoot anything above it. Then in time you lower that number a little.

I will do all of these things. I gave a bit more raw food (only 1 tbsp) because he only had a tbsp earlier At breakfast. I don’t want to give anymore until we see if I need to feed him later to steer him. I would need some help understanding that but hopefully it’s not necessary. I’ll get a +11 today as well
