Hey Kyle, Welcome! Yes it is a way to get a more precise dose. The problem with syringes is that the placement of the markings on them are inconsistent from barrel to barrel. That's allowable and doesn't make a difference when dosing human diabetics. But for smaller doses for kitties, it can make a huge difference. So instead of measuring your doses to the 1 Unit line, you measure the dose according to distance, in millimetres, based on your syringe type and barrel size.
Best thing to do: Watch the "how-to" on
dosing with calipers. Marje and Gracie (GA) did a step-by-step video on how to use them. She uses a lightbox and a magnifying glass. I have been using an eye loup and a bright lamp. I may buy a cheap lightboard. But, my eyes aren't the greatest and I'm doing it. You will be able to, also!
Here is the link to the digital calipers that most members in the U.S.A. seem to buy/use:
Harbor Freight.
You can also look back in my threads for the past couple of days as I asked A LOT of questions the first time I dosed with them.
It is a learning curve for sure, but totally worth it! I have peace of mind knowing Butters is getting the same amount of insulin every time. So great you are going to tackle this up front. I wish I had.
