? Food recommendations??

Good morning from Canada!
I was hoping for a some food recommendations for my newly diagnosed kitty Milo.

I was feeding Hill’s w/d because my vet recommended it. Then I switched to raw food about 10 days ago. Initially he ate it all up with gusto (chicken, turkey, beef, duck) and always wanted more. He gained some much-needed weight back. However, his appetite is less and less recently. He initially did fine on the raw beef. Then he spent all of yesterday throwing it up when I fed it to him again. Out of desperation, later in the day I gave some of his much-loved w/d canned food as he really had not eaten much at all for 24 hours. Now he’s not even touching the duck mixed with a bit of w/d.

I live rurally and I am 1 hour away from stores. Tomorrow I am heading to the city and would like to pick up a)LC wet food to mix with the raw to entice him to eat b)HC wet food in case he has a low. I looked at the chart but I’m there are so many choices, I’m not sure where to begin.
I hope to stick to the raw diet in the long run as I think it’s best for Milo.

Lol!!! Mine was eating so voraciously I called him “my little tiger”. Unfortunately I think it was the side effect of his uncontrolled diabetes and he would have eaten just about ANYTHING. He normally is a very picky eater so I was shocked at how he literally DOVE into the raw food. Now he’s changed back to be finicky. Sigh... :/

Good morning from northern Ontario where the vets are few and far between and pet stores even more so!! Or vice versa!

I’m reading a lot about FF classics. I think
I could find that in my local grocery store which would be handy. I’m not used to thinking of this as quality cat food since the vets have had me convinced I had to buy their prescription foods for the past 5 years otherwise I obviously didn’t love my felines!

I have to say Fancy Feast pates completely turned my Troubles diabetes around. but Removing his dry dropped his numbers 100 points.
 
Looking north to you from the Kawarthas.

Going by what's available in my grocery store (the neighbourhood cats come by for snackage), your local grocery store is likely to have only Fancy Feast pates and Friskies pates. Do pick up a couple of cans of Fancy Feat Gravy Lovers for use during a low numbers event.
The small tins of President's Choice are fine. Some of the larger cans have different formularies and are higher in carbs. (It's been awhile since Canadian-only brands were checked. The formation may be out of date.)

Sadly, a number of brands on the food list are not available in Canada. If you are going to a chain pet food store, access their website. With a few clicks, they will tell you what brands of wet food they carry. Make a list of the brands and then go to the food list to check the carb count. A number of people here buy the Tiki brand.

The main issue with Fancy Feast is that they are rather high in phosphorus. Not so much a problem if there are no kidney or urinary issues.

I just used to take my iPad or phone with a link to Dr. Lisa's list into the grocery store. I mostly fed raw, either Red Dog/Blue Kat (made in BC near me) or home made raw. I made sure to rotate the proteins so they didn't get bored.

I think a number of the Canada Fresh are OK. Search for it, I think someone did the work on carbs for it.
 
Soooo much to learn. Fortunately, Milo appears to be eating again today. He’s eaten up quite a bit of the raw duck. Maybe because his numbers are down or/and he’s cleared the raw beef from his system, he’s acting more normal than he has in months. I will pick up some canned food for “just in case” situations but I’m relieved that the raw food is appealing to him again.

I'm no expert, but the protein part of Whiskas seems very low. The second ingredient is water.
