My cat Zuki has tapeworms (not the kind they get from fleas - the other kind) and I need to deworm her. I am assuming I should also deworm my Zhoom Boy - he is my diabetic kitty - since they share litter pans.

My vet suggested Profender which is a topical dewormer. I read a bit about it and it does seem to be effective against a bunch of different kinds of worms. I also read in the reviews how it killed a couple cats.....ok, I know that giving anything to an animal can be a risk, but I am freaking out! It is so difficult for me to apply something that could kill my sweet kitties. Does anyone have any experience with Profender or any other deworming agent that they can share with me?

I know that I have to do something because the worms can kill them too, eventually. I could really use some help. I looked into natural remedies and I see that some of the herbs used in these remedies are actually toxic to cats (I looked at the NaturPet D Wormer and it has black seed oil which I am pretty sure is toxic to cats). Again, hmmmm. What to do.

Suggestions and support highly appreciated.

I'm no vet, and someone on the internet will always have something scary to say about anything. But... If you don't like the idea of the topical medicine, see what your vet thinks of prescribing epsiprantel or praziquantel in pill form. Whenever my Thomas started producing tapeworm segments, cestex or drontal seemed to knock it right out. Though this was some years back and practice may have changed.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I appreciate the support. I am going to go with an oral dewormer. I just feel better about it. Fingers crossed that I get it down!
