Finally haven't had a red or black for a week. I have Jasper at 2.25 units, cut out the night dry food. His numbers have come down a lot and staying pretty consistant. Should I keep him at 2.25 or you think I would do better at 2.5? Would love to see greens and blues. He tested at 226 this morning so I may skip his morning dose. He did get his night dose 2 hrs late last night as I wasn't home till late, but Novolin doesn't last as long. He's been great at using the litter box, not drinking as much water and no vomiting in a long time. Though, he was good at letting me test, but lately trying to fight me and constantly trying to move or scratch(not sure if fleas or medicine making him itchy). He's due for flea treatment next week, but always scratching behind his ear, neck.

Robyn --

Can you stall for about 20 min and then re-test? I'm always conservative with Novolin since it can drop numbers hard.

If I may, can you do your best to get a before bed test every night? Like I said, Novolin has a short duration and is harsh. Jasper's numbers could easily tank over night. If no one mentioned this to you, Novolin N is no longer recommended by the American Animal Hospital Assn for the treatment of feline diabetes for these reasons. (Prozinc and Lantus are the recommended types of insulin.)

I'm going to do a +3 and +5 today. I'll go back to a before bed test too. I'm dosing at 7 AM and 7 PM now. I'll call tomorrow to make an appointment to get his meds changed. Which is cheaper, Prozinc or Lantus?

They are comparable if you order the Lantus from Canada. ProZinc is $105 from chewy, lasts 4-6 months. Lantus is just under $200 for 5 pen vials from Marks Marine pharmacy in Canada that will last most people about a year.

It may even last longer than a year. 5 Lantus pens go a long way depending on the dose. The $190 Janet mentioned includes shipping btw
