The last time we had a diabetic cat was '98 and I had a better mind at 37 than now at 59.

Testing at 8a,11a, 2p, 5p, 8p (11p)
Shots at 8a and 8p (lantus)
No food 2 hours before tests
Feed just b4, during or right after shot
Feed at nadir
17# cat x 20 calories pd
3½ cans FF, ¼-½ can frozen for overnight
5 bowls in Petsafe rotating feeder
So....
8a test, feed ½ can FF, shoot
11a (test) feed ¼ can
2p test, feed 1 can
(Still figuring out nadir timing..)
5p (test) feed ¼ can
8p test, feed ½ can, shoot
>>set up Petsafe 5 with frozen food<<
11p ¼ can (test if awake)
2a ½ can
5a ¼ can

Too much?

Looks like you are very organized and have a good handle on what you're doing. Your kitty is lucky to have you. :)

If you've done this once and you're not currently crying then you're off to a good start.
I know all about exploding heads. When I was 37 I would have run out of the clinic tearing out clumps of hair. Now diabetes is an annoyance.
I know what you mean. After having 4 diabetic cats, 2 adopted knowing they were diabetic, if the vet were to tell me one of my cats were diabetic, I would probably say " is that all?"

I have no experience with Lantus so this will be brief. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong because we don't do the ego thing here and you should probably move over to the Lantus forum. You asked "too much?"
Testing 6 times is almost a curve which you'll remember from 22 years ago. That will eventually wear you out.
Although it's not textbook feeding before a shot is okay as long as "just before" means 10 minutes. Don't let that stretch into 30 minutes.
It's been 10+ years since I saw nice nadirs with Nigel, the cat that loved being in cars. Noah's numbers were a mess, never did get him stabilized.
That's it, no jokes tonight and I generally don't give medical advice other than the following;
cardiomyopathy
long term transdermal BUPE
severe neurotic behavior in dogs, separation anxiety etc. Have a good night.
