Philly, what are you doing?

Not surprisingly we saw red and pink after skipping yesterday morning's shot. This morning he was above 300. Since we only shot 1 unit, we gave him a poke break today while still giving him his snacks. Mistake. He is 80 at PMPS.

We can't do a true stall because we allowed him to eat while we tested, so he's had dinner. I'm comfortable shooting lower numbers, but I don't know about now since he's had falling numbers and big swings.

Ugh! I don't like rollercoasters.

Me either, Phoenix was 114 at preshot this morning. I didn't feed him and waited. Two hours later, he was at 59 still with no injection. I was a nervous wreck! Tonight's preshot was at 389 and I decreased his insulin by .5 units. Believe me, I would rather see numbers a little high than a little low.

I was following Phoenix's journey today and thinking we were having the same kind of days. I'm so confused and frustrated. Philly is now in the 400s with no shot in his system to help, and I want to bang my head against the wall. I just don't know how to keep him safe.

Give Phoenix a scratch from me. We'll figure this out.

Something has to change. Skipped 80 and now 527. Does anyone have any thoughts? Do we try a different insulin? We are down to 1 unit and still all over the place. Help?

I have decreased Phoenix's insulin dose and he seems to be leveling out. He is staying in the 200- 300 range but is not seeing the extreme highs and lows as before.
I had a conference with my veterinarian last Friday. He was very pleased with Phoenix's progress but was also concerned about the extreme lows on his spreadsheet. He recommended that I hold a dose for 2 or 3 weeks before I adjust the dose. He said this would give his body time to adjust to the insulin level. I know it is not recommended on this board to do this, but Phoenix seems to have leveled off quite a bit the last two days. How is your little munchkin doing today?

I'm glad you're seeing healthier numbers!

We reduced from 1.25 to 1 a few days ago. I also had a vet consult today. She wants me to do a shot in the morning and then get a curve, testing every two hours without giving an evening shot. Of course today he is already climbing - high 300s at +7. This is so frustrating.

Looking at Philly's spreadsheet for today, it does look a little bit better. My vet mentioned the insulin depot to me. Our cat's can store insulin up especially when we increase doses. This can account for our really low numbers. We just need to hang in there and wait for things to level out. At least Philly didn't have any really low numbers this morning and neither did Phoenix. This is more scary than the high numbers. I freak over both low and high numbers, though.
