Well this wasn’t quite the morning I expected, AMPS was 385 which didn’t seem terrible as we figure out his right dosage and after how much he ate yesterday. He spit up what looked like a piece of dry food followed by some foam about 30 minutes before his BG check but was otherwise super feisty and feeling good, and he was up at 5AM playing so I don’t think he can feel terribly? :/ he didn’t want to eat breakfast so I only gave him .5U. I’m hoping he’ll eat some chicken when my mom fixes pup’s breakfast in the next hour or so.

I’m trying not to worry too much (hard for me haha) because he ate a TON yesterday and has been acting great, including this morning. Unfortunately the ketone strips got delayed but amazon says they’ll be here today or tomorrow. My mom will be able to keep an eye on him and hopefully get him to eat, and I’ll check him at lunch.

Sometimes they spit up foam when they have a lot of acid in their empty tummy.

Hope he (and you) have a great day.

That's what I thought; my first kitty Oreo, who I lost to CRF a couple of years ago, struggled with that during his battle. Joe usually yowls when he's badly sick and he didn't do that, he just hacked and threw up the piece of dry food, and then the foamy stuff. He definitely doesn't act like he feels bad in any other way besides not chowing down on breakfast like usual, but that was definitely not a problem yesterday, LOL.

Thank you so much <3 I finally slept pretty normally, hopefully he will get back to his usual eating habits and I can continue to do so :cat:

I was just looking at your spreadsheet. I'm wondering why you lowered all the way down to 1 unit yesterday...were you worried he was going to be sensitive after the low numbers? It looks like he cleared that now. If it were my cat I'd lower to 3 and see how he does.
I am, especially because for some reason this new vial of insulin seems to be hitting him really hard. I've given him 3-4U before and he's still ended up in the 400s in the morning, but he was 385 today with just .75U so I'm trying to be super cautious and go slow until we know what's going on. I was going to bump him up more this morning but I held off since he didn't eat. I'll feel more comfortable when it's the weekend and I can check him regularly too, but I'm at work from 8-5 all this week and can only check him at lunch :(

It will get better. You are learning and growing from the experience. One day you will be helping someone going through the same thing because "You've BEEN THERE"
Gosh I look forward to that, I really hope one day I can help out the way I've been helped here. Right now all I can provide are warm thoughts, prayers, and well wishes, and I know that's something but I'd like to do more one day <3

It's more about how low he goes rather than what the preshot is. Eventually that preshot will come down. You did awesome the other day BTW. You definitly kept him out of danger. He never got into scary numbers because you did such a good job at steering.

We do want to see him in those low, healing blues and dark green numbers though. :)

Thank you so, so much <3 it was so scary, especially because of how long it went on and there for a while it didn't really seem like even the HC stuff really made him go up much at all. I feel so nervous every time I check him now and I know that won't last forever, but I am definitely still shaking off the trauma of this and I just don't want him to suffer because of my fear. I wish i would've given him a little more insulin this morning now but I just worried he was going to have an off day of eating... baby steps, I keep telling myself <3 We'll get past this.

Deb advised her to go down to 1 unit after the all nighter Saturday and his consistent low numbers

YAY!!! My mom called and Jonas ate some chicken as well as some of his sister Emma's food :)
Whitney, I suggest that you ask your vet for some anti nausea meds prescription. Either Cerenia or ondansetron. Diabetic cats need to eat and I think anti nausea meds are our best friends. In a day like today, you could give him one and wait 30 minutes and offer food again. They work really fast especially on an empty stomach. When Minnie didn’t want to eat, I’d give her the ondansetron and still give her the insulin because I knew she’d want to eat in about 30 minutes after it took effect. Of course, that’s because I knew her behavior I wouldn’t suggest that with Jonas until you know how it works on him. I’m not sure if Cerenia works as fast, I’m a big fan of ondansetron. It’s a human med and it can be given everyday long term

Oh, I didn't know you could get them prescribed just to have on hand! That is awesome. Both he and one of his sisters, Winona, has had Cerenia before when they were sick and it worked wonders. Winona especially was really bad and she's a petite girl so it was extra scary because she dehydrates so easily. Not eating with Joe is very rarely a problem (thank GOODNESS) but it would make me feel better to have something on hand. I haven't had ondansetron before so I'll definitely inquire about it. Thank you! I really wish I had more time with him on weekday mornings, his shot time is 7:30 AM and I have to be out the door at 7:40, so things run really tight. That's why I ended up just doing the .50U this morning, I just wanted to make sure he'd be safe in case for some reason he didn't eat today.

My mom just texted me as I was writing this and he's munched on some Purebites treats so definitely sounds like he's got his normal appetite back :) Yay! I'm glad this morning was just a blip, he's bad about getting dry food caught sometimes and hacking it back up. I'm not even sure where he found it at, LOL.

I totally get it. Hate that feeling of having to rush out the door. Is moving his shot time earlier an option? It might make you feel less stressed out about it...?
Gosh, I'd really like to for the occasional instances like these, or if I get a lower AMPS number than usual. I've ended up sticking with 7:30AM/PM because of having to work late some days, and trying to let myself sleep in the tiniest bit on the weekends :joyful: If days like this one become any more frequent, I might try to shift him closer to 7. I just want to keep him as close to 12 hours apart as possible (even though his nadirs seem to come so late, I swear his cycle is closer to 15-16 hours... all the more reason to try and be consistent, I guess!)

You know you can adjust by 15 minutes at a time right? So if you want to sleep in a little on the weekends you can start pushing the time at Thursday by 15 minutes or Friday

Ohh, I've never thought about that! I always thought of the 15 minute increase/decrease as being for some uncontrollable reason, not something as simple as just wanting to sleep in a little, LOL. I will keep that in mind, thank you!!

It’s really for anything needed like you have an event you have to go to or have to work later and know ahead of time. The idea is that 15 minutes at a time leading up it doesn’t cause an impact on their BG numbers as opposed to being an hour late or an hour earlier
