7/14 Kozmo, AMPS 117, +12.25 100, +1 195, +2 176, +3 142,+4 160, +6 94, 2wks post DKA

BGs are definitely affected by pain. If the pain is treated it can drop the BG. I found that with Sheba.
How is his appetite this morning. He’s still quite low. A lot lower than you have shot before. Hes probably dropped because he needs food

I don’t think I would give him the full dose. I think maybe 1 unit. The BG is much lower than you have shot before. You will have to get a +1 and 2 to start with. The depot will still be in play and be influencing the 1 unit dose.

He’s eating well... do i let him eat the whole lot or leave done fit +1 and +2 still? We’ll shoot 1 unit.
I’d let him eat a good amount. And hopefully he’ll eat at +1. What carbs is it?

If he drops we will have to feed often so we don’t want to fill him up. But the Lantus shouldn’t hit for 2 hours. He’s probably coming off the bounce atm

Happy to help.
Catch as many pees as you can to check for ketones. I don’t like reducing the dose with DKA in the picture but he was a lot lower (and dropping) than he has been and we have no data how he goes with a lowBG at shot time. Normally we reduce the shot number gradually but Kozmo has other ideas. He’ll probably bounce from that lovely green Preshot but at this point we dont know.
Message to Kozmo from his auntie Bron.. your job is to eat really well this cycle and keep away from the trampoline and the deep water. Sit on the beach!

I thought that’s what it was but didn’t want to presume (lost confidence). On a good note, negative ketones :)
Great there are no ketones.
Maybe Kozmo has just had a big food bump from the higher carb food.
The good news is he doesn’t bounce for long. He is giving us blue or green numbers a lot of the cycles which a lot of people would love to have.
I think he’s making progress.

Wondering about the timing of Gabapentin - it seems to hit him at +2 which is when Lantus kicks in. Which forum would I post that question, do you think?[/QUOTE]

Id post it in the main forum.

He's having a lovely nap and I didn't have the heart to disturb him once again :D He's been eating well though and I'm proud of him. I agree that Lantus agrees with him... he looks much healthier for it too.

Test at +6?
I’m glad he’s having a lovely nap. I’m sure he feels better not bouncing.
Yes I’d test +6. It’s good data.
I would go back to 2 units at PMPS

I’m heading to bed shortly. Are you going to be around @Nan & Amber (GA)
I hope Kozmo has a great rest of the day and evening.

Hmmm... The poor guy probably feels like a pincushion at this point, but I think I'd test at +7.

I don't think I'd do a snack at this late stage, unless he's acting hungry, then a little bit of LC. He's had a nice gentle descent so far today, let's see if he can behave himself the rest of the day!

I’ve got to admit that once Kozmo levels out, stops bouncing or whatever is is we’re hoping to achieve, I’m looking forward to choosing a path that doesn’t require such laborious testing and feeding. I love the sweet guy to pieces, will do anything it takes to help him and I hope this doesn’t sound bad, but I need to start being able to leave the house. And sleep. I can see why we’re doing all this testing, but I hope Kozzie can help it ease up soon :)

Oh Nan, thank you for understanding. Neil read what I wrote and thought it sounded like I wanted Kozzie PTS!

I’m not thinking clearly because I’m overtired again. Please don’t hesitate to keep suggesting when to test, to feed and to shoot and we’ll get it done with a smile on our faces as always.

You’re all wonderful and we couldn’t do it without you. :bighug:

Just checking in to see how Kozmo went for the rest of the day.
What a great am cycle! :D:cat:And he looks as if he’s going to come back down for the pm cycle. He is certainly responding to feeding the curve to slow the drop. Let’s hope he can keep it up.
I’m sure you must be tired. I remember when I was testing frequently in the early part of the cycles to try and catch the drops and feed.... I found it time consuming and tiring ... .. but well worth it to see the better numbers. Try and get naps when you can. Things should ease off soon. Looking after a post DKA kitty is exhausting both physically and mentally but you have done a wonderful job and should be proud of yourselves.
I see no ketones still in the SS.... excellent.
How is his appetite? It sounds as if he’s eating better now.
And is he pooping ok?

Hi Bron, Neil stayed up with me until +5 and the SS is updated with the results. My goodness, go Kozmo! For the first time, I see some light at the end of the tunnel and I can sleep in peace for once.

His appetite is the best it’s ever been and he’s pooping his normal hard nuggets that have been his life since, you know, the car. Gabapentin is his friend, we accept that now. We have lactulose and will begin to introduce it tomorrow.

Neil reminded me that you (all) have armed us with enough knowledge to proceed on a day to day basis and I need to take off my training wheels haha. I get that. Questions only from me from now on. Like this morning’s stall for example.

So good to hear a good report.
We try and explain as we go along to educate as well as help. It’s a steep learning curve in the beginning and with DKA thrown in its even steeper.
I’d keep posting daily at the moment.... we like to hear how he’s progressing and it keeps us all in the loop. You don’t have to write much. Just his numbers and how he’s going.
We should be able to go to daily ketone testing now I think unless he’s not eating or seems unwell.
