After Kozmo’s antics with refusing to eat almost all day yesterday, he’s much brighter today. He ate 30g LC wet food at PM+10, not a huge amount but I didn’t have to syringe him. Neg ketones at that time too. His body’s not floppy like yesterday and he’s purring.

But! His AMPS is only 160 so we’re stalling and retesting in 20 minutes (actually 5 minutes now) and will keep doing that.

So glad he is feeling much better. And eating some food!
We haven’t worked out yet what dosing method you are following. If you are feeding some dry ( and that’s fine) you can only do the Start Low Go Slow method. And that would mean Kozmo earned a reduction in dose with the 79.
However with DKA in the picture We need to be careful. I’m going to tag @Wendy&Neko to see what she thinks of a reduction

Hi Bron, I see your point. We’ve got 181.8 20 minutes later.

If there's no dry in the picture, you certainly test enough to be doing Tight Regulation.

His BG is going up so as long as you can test tonight and have plenty of strips, HC food etc., I'd go ahead with the 2U dose. I'd get a +1 and +2 to start with so if you need to intervene, you can do it early.

You don't want to stall too long either because since you don't feed when you're stalling, at some point the BG may start to come down due to the lack of food.

That being said, I can't stay online to watch for you tonight. Maybe @Bron and Sheba (GA) can since they're on the other side of the planet

Hi Chris

One good thing about this COVID thing is that we’ve been home for Kozmo’s regular testing. What if our ability to test so regularly during the day changes for tight regulation? We’ve stopped dry food.

TR will be much better for Kozmo with DKA in the picture. When you have time can you put TR in your signature please so that we all know.
This will mean a reduction in dose at 50 not 90 and an increase in dose every 3 days if needed.

:smuggrin::eek:
I’m lucky to have you both here x
Chris and I are often on the board together. She’s a night owl and doesn’t know when to go to bed!! :eek:And she’s very experienced!
I’m so glad Kozmo is eating today and is more active. Good boy Kozmo. Your job today is just to eat ..... my boy Harry would love to have that job!
Will watch for the +1 and+2

She’s a night owl and doesn’t know when to go to bed!!

Even though China has been gone for quite some time now, I still almost always check on the board before I call it a night...just in case. The Facebook group keeps me busy but I still just have to check here

Hope Kozmo eats for you tonight and you have a non-eventful cycle! Would be nice to see some nice blues and greens instead of those icky blacks and reds!

Since Bron is here, I'll take off now!

Kozzie has just eaten ½ a mini chicken breast fillet. Is that enough?
One of us will be ducking up the road to get more HC food.

That’s a really good meal!
I think small amounts often is the way to go. The Lantus doesn’t usually kick in for 2 hours so you have time for him to have another snack a bit later.

I’ll keep testing hourly. Poor fellow, after yesterday I hope he doesn’t feel lousy either.
You don’t need to keep testing hourly. Take a break for you all. Just get one around +5 to see how high he’s going. He’s not going up as fast as he was the last two bounces.
Can you put a line inbetween the Vetsulin and the Lantus please so we can see easily when you swapped over. Thx

I see you haven’t given gabapentin again. I wouldn’t stop it all together if I were you. I would reduce the dose if you want him to have less. But stopping may cause unwanted side effects

I took the line out when I redid the SS yesterday thinking I’d done something wrong the first time. I’ll put it back!

We were concerned it contributed to the symptoms he had yesterday, but realistically he’s been on it long enough for us to know it was something else. You raise a good point so we’ll reduce the dose today rather than stop it.

I think that’s a good idea not to stop it cold turkey. It could have been contributing to his lethargy as he was weaker than his normal self.
I’m hoping he will have a better day today and not bounce up so high.

Just tested +5 at 268. A slight drop. Are we on the lookout for numbers dropping too quickly and wondering when to test?

I also wanted to say a very big thank you to every one of our guardian angels. We truly couldn't do this without you.

That’s really good he hasn’t gone up further. I’d test again in a couple of hours just to see if he’s dropping lower. He looks like he is figuring out the bounces a bit.
Are you feeding him snacks frequently? Kozmo, are you still doing your job for today?

We are very happy to help always. And you have been a pleasure to help.
I’m heading to bed soon and I’m hoping to hear that Kozmo has had a good day/ evening in the morning.

Back to blue already Kozmo? That's great, looks like the bounce is in the rearview mirror!

How is he feeling/acting today?

Is there a reason you were dropping the gaba other than his lethargy the other day? I feel like he probably needs the gaba for pain, and it was unlikely to be the cause of his symptoms, not sure I'd drop it right now unless there were other reasons.

Hi Nan. Kozmo is a different boy today, it's been a couple of years since we've seen the real him and we feel we're on our way! He was so floppy and out of it yesterday that we decided to skip his PM gaba dose because he had started to make a slight comeback and we didn't want to jeopardise that. We weren't sure if he was going to be the same again today, and we were concerned that it might trip him over the edge. He's about to have his PM dose because we agree with you, he does need it for pain and we've established previously that the gaba doesn't cause him undue harm, just gives him a little 'gaba snooze' - we were so perplexed as to what had caused his symptoms yesterday.

He's been snacking throughout the day, with the last one just now.... two hours before his PMPS.

I know it's early days - being completely new to diabetes we have no idea what to expect in the future - but it appears Kozmo is responding positively to Lantus and thanks to you all, we know we're on the right track.

Kozzie’s PMPS read was 497 it looks like a bounce but we’re wondering if it’s due to anxiety kicking in because of the missed gaba doses. Even though he’d had his dose an hour earlier, I saw the stress in his eyes - he’s on it for pain and anxiety.

We’ll never skip gaba again.
