Went from 1.5 u to 1.75 today and seeing 89 at +3. That seems to be a good thing, but since he's eating Dr Elsey's dry, the protocol calls for a reduction.

I am home to test as often as needed. I'm not sure if a reduction makes sense already if numbers like this are the goal. We tried 1.75 once before then reduced. My vet suggested going back up to try to get him a little lower.

For those with more experience than me, what would be the downside of staying with this dose as long as he doesn't drop too low?

I'm using an AT2 meter.

What didn’t work before might work now. Unless you ditch the dry I would follow the protocol, especially since it’s only +3.

Ok. That plan has changed. He's at 65 at +4. I just coaxed him to eat some Friskies wet food. I'll retest in 30 min.

I guess his body is trying to tell me it didn't like going from 1.5 to 1.75.

He's 74 at +6. I didn't feed him when I tested. I want to see if he is at nadir and I want him to be hungry if he drops lower and needs a boost. He's relaxing in a window sill.

With that 65 you definitely need to take the reduction. Sometimes they just need a bump up to get them back to good numbers and you have to go right back down. There are times when you go back and forth with doses. For safety it is best to follow the SLGS reduction guidelines. I'm glad he came up and is surfing for you.

Good catch today Beck. Maybe he'll like 1.5 units better now. Philly's doing a great job surfing. :D

I just responded to a new person today who's vet told her it takes 7-10 days for a cat to respond to a new dose, so you don't need to test until then.

Oh my. How many cats suffer because of misguided information like that. Poor things! I'm lucky to have a vet that's open minded. She loves the speadsheet and will take time on the phone to ask me questions like, "what was he at this hour?" Or " when was the last time he ...?"
