I have a slight rant about my vet  but first what he said regarding Sprinkles rectal problem. He says she needs to lose 3 lbs. totally understood and that the problem is she is getting urine on herself when she pees and it is burning her. She can't really reach to clean the area so I will be using baby wipes and polysporin on the area, he also emptied her anal glands. Now to my issue with him, he basically shamed me for feeding them wet food now he says it's like putting gravy on the potatoes. I explained how beneficial it has been for my diabetic Rocky that it immediately stopped him from drinking so much water even before I started his insulin but he was unaffected saying the insulin will do that and I need to get them on dry food. Well I fed them dry for 12+ years and look what that got me!!! They were on Science prescription ID then switched to WD I NEVER GAVE THEM TREATS EVER and he looked at me in disbelief and said NO TEMPTATIONS TREATS!! I've never had a treat in my house until I purchased Pure Bites to give Rocky when I test him then he said they are probably made in China, I refuted that comment saying I definitely checked before I bought them and they are USA made. I feel like I should change vets, I think if I disagree with him on something as important as what they are eating I should find a vet more up to date on these matters. Any thoughts??

Oh and also he didn't even remember that just last month she was in there for surgery to remove a large lipoma from her neck!!!! he asked me why her neck was missing fur!! What the heck it was only a month ago!!! I think a different Dr removed it but he saw her first and we had this same food conversation then.:(

Didn't he even read her chart?
I am sorry, but I would run as fast as you can away from that vet. What he said about the dry food was OUTRAGEOUS! Sounds like he just wanted to keep you on the prescription diet to make some $$$. Run as fast as you can, IMO.

BTW, I read your first post to get some background, and even the fact he prescribed Novolin is a bad sign. Novolin is way too harsh for cats, better for dogs. Lantus is preferred, especially if you are hoping for remission. Thank goodness you are home testing, with Novolin, their numbers can drop really fast and really hard.

You mentioned you are in Youngstown, I am not far from you, I am in Geneva, just 50 miles north, near the Lake :)

Anyway, she is your baby, you need a vet you can trust. I wouldn't trust that one. You need someone to work with you, not against you.

Hi Paula, I am relatively new here, too, but I switched vets within days of finding this forum! My previous vet tried to push dry food on me for Butters and did not believe in home blood glucose testing. He made a big deal of making a note in her file that I refused his diet recommendations. So I agree that if your vet is pushing dry food and you have other vet options, then you should switch. It alleviated a lot of stress for me!

Hello in Geneva! I know where that is :) Yes I am definitely getting a new vet! I don't think he's kept up with the times just does what he learned in school probably in the 60's judging by his age. Thanks for the support!!
