Hi everyone newbie here My cat was just diagnosed a couple of days ago .I have been chatting with Sherri skittles mom. She was telling me that my cat has neuropathy {vet never told me} .She told me about Zobaline she can not remember how much i should give my cat.So if someone can tell me that would be great{ i will be ordering it tonight} Sherri wants me to share this with you...Back story on Lucy she is 14.5 years old . Back in Oct of 2019 i came home and she was on the bathroom sink nothing new. A little while later she was laying in the middle of my bedroom floor still noughting new. I got up to go in the other room i picked her up and something was just not right. I put her down and she could not walk or stand using her back legs.I rushed her to the vet they did xrays everything was great. the gave her a steroid shot and sent her home with meds. one being gabapentin .She was was almost back to her old self within about a month. At the end of April she was beginning slowly to not being able to walk again so i took her back to the vet .Not knowing that diabetes was the cause. The vet never suggested blood test or expressed to me that she maybe diabetic.{not my regular vet in that office} So now its June I took her back to the vet. The vet we saw this time thought she was diabetic so he ran blood test to confirm and sure enough he was right..So long story short I need as much help as i can get
thanks 8catsplus2 and Lucy

Hello!

I am a newly returning mama, so I will leave the advice giving and knowledge for others:)

For now welcome, and please know you are in a great place here with some fantastic and knowledgeable people!

I notice your username... Do you have 8 kitties? :cat::cat::cat::cat::cat::cat::cat::cat:

Welcome. Are you giving insulin or will you be starting this week ? Which one?
I hope she doesn't mind, but I can answer somethings for her
she is giving prozinc. her cat is 7 lbs. She has 10 cats, all on dry food but she was able to get the switch the one w diabetes over to can food a few months ago. Since the baby cant walk, she is keep away from the other cats .

You can get b12 methyl cheaper from Vitacost. Zobaline ends up being very expensive if you’re giving 2 a day. The vitacost one comes in capsules so you can open it up and mix it with the food. Each capsule has 5mg compared to each zobaline tablet that has only 3mg. Minnie recovered completely once her diabetes was regulated and pretty fast too. About 90% in 3 months so there’s hope!! :bighug:

Hi And welcome to you and your sweet kitty.
The best thing you can do for your kitty is to home test the blood sugar so you know what is happening.
Buy a human meter and test strips. Walmart has a ReliOn one which is not expensive and the test strips are cheap as well.
You will also need to set up a spreadsheet and signature so we can see all the blood glucose data and all about your kitty.
If you can’t set the SS up yourself someone here will do it for you. You only have to ask.
Here is a link which has the details to the links you will need

Can your kItty walk at all at the moment?

Alot of members use this , I use it myself you can buy it on line from Vitacost
Vitacost Vitamin B-12 Methylcobalamin -- 5000 mcg - 100 Capsules
It's 17.99 just be sure this is the one you buy
The only difference is the Zobaline has 200 mcgs of folic acid
So I buy the folic acid at the supermarket and crush it up and add it to the B-12
If you can't find the 200 mcg get the 400 mcg and cut it in half
The Vitacost brand is a capsule so just open it and pour the powder on the wet food
Has no taste, no need to crush it up
The Zobaline is 33.99 for 60 pills, too expensive
I saw a big improvement I'd say 3 months, could be sooner. One capsule a day
LUCY is so adorable those big eye and that little tongue sticking out, you have found the best place you can be

Vitacost Vitamin B-12 Methylcobalamin -- 5000 mcg - 100 Capsules

Thanks
I've already purchased the meters and strips and the lancets I think is what they're called. Someone made me a spreadsheet. I just have to figure out how to use it I'm more comfortable using my cell phone versus the laptop so it's going to take me a little time to figure that one out. I hate computers
I do have to figure out all the other little things like the signature etc. Thanks again

Welcome and hi again!

If you can set up your signature, that will help us know the basics about your cat at a glance, like what insulin and food Lucy is on, what meter you’re using, etc. Please check out this link for instructions on that and setting up the spreadsheet too to record the BG levels once you start testing :cat:

Thanks I will as soon as I figure out this website

The signature is probably the easiest. I did it on my cell too:

Make sure your signature is up-to-date.
  • On the left, under Settings, Click on Signature. This is where you will put information that helps us give you feedback.
    • There is a limit of two lines which may include two links; you may separate pieces with commas, dashes, | etc. This is where you paste the link for your spreadsheet, once it is set up.
    • Add any other text, such as
    • Caregiver & kitty's name (optional)
    • DX: Date
    • Name of Insulin
    • Name of your meter
    • Diet: "LC wet" or "dry food" or "combo"
    • Dosing: TR or SLGS or Custom (if applicable)
    • DKA or other recent health issue (if applicable)
    • Acro, IAA, or Cushings (if applicable)
    • Spreadsheet link. Please put the signature link on the bottom line of your signature information, on its own, so it is easy to find.
    • Please do not put any information about your location in the signature for security reasons. If you wish to add your country location, please add it to your profile.
Be sure to click the 'Save Changes' button at the bottom. If you need help urgently it is important we know these things at a glance. We don’t want to waste valuable time finding out information.
