? 6/11 - Max - I fed Max food with 15% carbs & he's already high (Catinfo said it was 5%!).

ARGH! After a day in blue, Max started to climb last night. He went down a little, but not to where he was yesterday. After his AMPS read (over 500), I fed him what I thought was a 5% carb food off of Dr. Lisa's list from Catinfo, but going to the Soulistic site and looking at the 'Dry Matter' list, it's actually 15.1%! I just gave Max 0.25U...can I give him another 0.25U or do I just wait it out knowing he's going to be really high all day. OMG, I am so angry with myself for not checking it before feeding him!!! I gave it to him once a week or so ago, but didn't think much of it. Been feeding around 4-5% lately. Help!!

Okay, thank you. I'm just so angry at myself as he had such a good day yesterday and then started heading up. He's been on the same can of Weruva 4.6% carb food since yesterday afternoon, so I decided to try something else. I should have known it was bad for him when he went nuts for it.

I shop off of food lists when looking for something different, but know that things can change. I gave the food to Max a few weeks ago, but he wasn't being tested regularly then, so I didn't notice any effect. Decided on a whim to look it up and misread the as fed (2.9%) instead of the dry matter. By the time it clicked and I saw it was 15.1%, he'd eaten 3/4 of the pouch. I just went to the forum link and it's the same list I have saved on my phone. It says updated, but the date is still 2017. Yet, my CKD food list site had it and says its 5.37%...so now I don't know what to think.

The food is so critical, yes! I always go by the DMB, and learned my lessons with BG checking (feeding what I thought was ok before I dug further). I feed Weruva Paw Lickin' Chicken most of the time (3.9% carb DMB), and Dr. Elsey's Clean Protein chicken pate (2% carb DMB). Tina doesn't like dark chicken, or she'd be eating Weruva Chicken Frick A Zee, which is closer to 2 carbs DMB. Before we got off insulin, I could tell a difference in her numbers based on whether she had 2 or 4% carbs at dinner four hours before PMPS. Ten percent carbs in a meal sends her way too high, but "under 10" works for some, by the advice I often see.

Because all these great food charts can get out of date quickly, and I found conflicting information, I stick to Weruva since they publish all the ingredients, including carbs, on an As Fed, DMB, etc. basis. Since Tina has CKD, I can't feed FF . . . I pay for the low phosphorus.

I drove myself half crazy before finally just settling on what both Tina and I like. True, she doesn't get a lot of variety.

Quit being mad at yourself!! Yep, if kitty goes crazy for something, he might be on a gobble carb binge!

Thank you! I have once CKD kitty too (not Max), and have tried to find Weruva food (their pre DX food choice) they can both eat but also WILL eat. Getting a few cans of Paw Lickin Chicken in my Petco order today...they did not like it last time we tried. Now I am questioning all my Weruva foods as I have been looking at the wrong lists for Max, and will need to recheck them. If the are on Dr. Lisa's list, its a go. If not, gotta look again.

That's ONE CKD kitty, lol.

Helen’s list on Tanya’s was updated much more recently Dr. Pierson and Helen use different ways of determine percentages. Helen uses dry matter. Weruva is really great about supplying all info (both ways I think) on their site. I wish all were as transparent.

Just my two cents...your SS looks a lot like my cats did where we were running out of room to take dose reductions, but where still having some numbers in the mid 200s. In December, we had to go from .25 to .10 because he needed to reduce but we were no where near being ready to come off the juice even though we saw some numbers under 100 and were in the mid 100s most days. Every cat is different for sure, but feeding him a high carb content ( 8% to 14 %) occasionally helped us hold onto good doses for longer to avoid reductions we couldn't take.
I might keep some MC food on hand so that you can feed the curve and maybe carb load in the beginning of the cycle if you find yourself meeting the requirements for a reduction you don't have room for at 0.25 units.
I have the Soulistic Chicken only recipe and I think they said it's around 8% cars and low phos....
Hope your kitty's numbers flatten out soon..playing the food game is frustrating for sure.

So if I go by ME, then almost all of the foods we have been feeding Max are waaaaay lower in carbs than I had thought! And a few I took him off of are actually okay for him. I love Weruva's site and wish too other companies were like that. I went looking for Tiki Cat and they don't have much listed. Soulistic and Weruva are owned by the same company, so the Soulistic website is much like Weruvas. It's odd tho that Helen's list had the Luna Tuna (her's said Luna Tuna Runa) listed as 5.37% carbs (DM) and updated 27-Jan-20, yet when I looked today at Soulistic's site, they say 15.1% DM and 13.3% for ME. It makes me wonder if the new package is also a new formula? Guess it's time to ask them.

OH! I remembered that in my CKD group, they posted a notice that Dr. Elsey's was changing their formulas and they will no longer be low phos!! Our food list person in the group verified that through the company and is so distraught as that's all his girl eats. Older cans are the old formula so he told the members to start buying them up!

It is frustrating for sure. I feel like I'm trying to do a super important science experiment (I'm a former researcher) but I have too many variables to work with. I had fed him Weruvs'a Name Dat Tuna and he was in the blue for over 12 hours. Now I'm being superstitious that that is the food he needs (lol).

Thank you so much for this information.;) The Dr Elseys is a bit higher in phosphorus than Weruva I have, but it was still ok. Now, grrrr!!
