Day 2 @ 1.62 Units Lantus

Morning everyone......Yoyo slept downstairs last night as that is what he wanted and when I checked on him he had urinated on the floor. Of course that is not normal nor good.....Yo has vet appt late this morning....I have no idea or should I say I don't want to know what the vet is going to say....if he needs a transfusion I have to go elsewhere and start all over with all the info....and have to leave Yo in a strange new place with covid19 around us all.....and I probably still have to stay in the car....this is not right, I understand why I have to stay in the car, but it does not make this journey very easy!

May all your kitties surf safely and everyone stay well:bighug:

Dear Yo from Tina,
My mommy and I have been hanging on to every bit of info we can get on you. You were the first kitty on this forum that I fell in love with, and you are still my special boo (friend). So, I'm sending a hundred kisses and hugs to help you out. I look forward to hearing an encouraging update from my mom later today, after your new exam. Please do not blame your mom for not continually being by your side in the doctor's office - she hates this covid mess too. I also had to go in by myself the last two times. Sending all my best:kiss:

Ohh...you made me cry dear sweet Tina Marie.....Yoyo loves you too!!

His HCT is not low enough for a transfusion. It’s a puzzle as to why he’s anemic as he’s early stage 3 CKD. :bighug: Vetty vines.

Debra, didn't you say awhile back it could be polynephritis? Ollie's vet said same thing for her or interstitial cystitis. Until we get ultrasound done we don't know which. Of course I read up on it. Polynephritis is high up in the kidneys and infection (bacteria, wbc, etc) doesn't show up in urinalysis at least that's what I read. Amoxicillin is drug of choice. Ollie has +3 blood in her urine which is clean catch so there should be none.

Going back to 2016, I read an article about antibiotics in pets (dogs & cats). One thing stuck out for me. It said if a cat was diabetic the course of antibiotics should be at least double than normal course. I asked my vet at that time his opinion. He agreed. Ollie's associate vet also agreed and put Ollie on it for 4 weeks. Ollie's current vet also agrees and we are just finishing this 2nd round (1st was in February). Hopefully we can get ultrasound done soon as restrictions are starting to lift. I will be running in another sample next week, if there is still blood than its probably cystitis vs infection. Ollie tolerates the Orbax antibiotic which is broad spectrum for bacterial urine infections.

Something to ask your vet about.

Interesting because my vet was never quick to give out antibiotics and even less so once Max became diabetic. It’s a tough call as side effects from antibiotics can make them feel yucky and if nothing grows in the culture and there is an infection you don’t know if the one used is the right one. Very frustrating. I don’t have any answers as to how I feel.

Thank you all for your wishes.....Yo is not doing well....please keep the prayers going....he just seizured in front of me and then peed. So I guess he had a seizure last night too and I had no idea, I just thought he was too weak to come upstairs to use the litter box.

Blood work is pending, does blood work show if electrolytes are off? Does he need a special panel of blood wk for that?

Haven't spoken to vet since I am back from vet but she is supposed to call me....I will ask about electrolytes but if anyone has an answer, please let me know....thank you all again for your continual support....you are all the BEST!!

Right now the only thing pending is blood work. I checked his ketones and they are negative...not even pinkish!
I just fed him and he was very thirsty. I give him water from an eye dropper and this way I can control how fast he drinks. If he drinks too fast all of his dinner could have come back up and I don't want that to happen!!

He seems to be comfortable right now, not in distress. His coloring was actually good too which is hard to believe. Maybe the B12 injection today helped him a little...just maybe?
The vet told me that complex B's(multi B's) can give him an upset stomach. Has this happened to any kitty who takes B's?

If I have a capsule of multi B's, can I open the capsule and sprinkle it in his food? Or does it have to be given in a capsule form?

His HCT actually went up half a point....I'll take it:)

Can I open a capsule and sprinkle multi B's on his food? Stomach upest?

Now he has to have seizures....vet spoke with a specialist, neurologist, and they feel it can be a cancerous tumor in the head. I didn't even know this type of Dr existed for animals. When Yo had his leg removed they removed the entire leg including his shoulder to prevent the spread of the cancer....I guess I have been blessed with the "best Kitty in the world" and I have had 2.5 years as a gift after his amputation. I'm not sure if he is going to make it thru this but I am fighting with all I have to keep him going!!!!!!!!!!

I hate when these vets give you worst case without even seeing him. I know people who had cats that had seizures and didn’t have tumors. I had a poodle When I was a kid who had epilepsy and back then he wasn’t even treated for it. So whilue it’s possible he could have a tumor, it’s possible he doesn’t.
You can mix a very tiny amount of B Complex in his food but only maybe 1/10 of the capsule. Praying it’s just epilepsy and there are drugs to control it.

Oh! What a day! I’ll keep y’all in prayer! I don’t know the answer to your question and electrolytes. Hope someone will weigh in.

I was given valium, .5ml, to give rectally of seizing isn't stopping.
She did mention another drug that wouldn't hurt the kidneys or liver but she said that he could get very sedated and doesn't feel he is a candidate for that because he is so lethargic now.
So, no other plans for controlling the seizures.
I feel like everything is a dead end road.

Was it gabapentine,? That’s sometimes used for seizures.

:bighug: I'm saying a prayer for Yoyo, and you. I know this is so hard for you.

This is only one cat, but it's something you could try. My brother's cat has seizures, and yogurt helps her. Once they figured it out they started giving to her every day, and she rarely has seizures now. They put it on top of her wet food, it sounds awful but she likes it.

They don't know what causes her seizures. They didn't get the tests done, because their vet said there wasn't any treatment if she did have a tumor. Your vet may tell you something different, and things may have changed since then. Also, my brother wan't able to see a cat neurologist - I'm with you, I didn't know they even existed!

Thank you...very interesting thing about the yogurt. Is it unflavored yogurt?
My vet also said no to a cat scan because he is older and not well, and they use anesthesia to do a cat scan or whatever big scan name she said.
She gave me valium to give Yoyo if when he seizes and doesn't stop. If a short seizure I am not to give the valium.
I don't remember the name of the med as all of this is said on the phone while I am sitting in the car waiting for Yoyo to have his examination.
Thank you again:)

They give her strawberry yogurt, that's what she likes. Strawberry yogurt on seafood pate, yum? o_O

She is a weird cat, though, she likes bananas. I would offer Yoyo a little plain yogurt alone. If you have flavored yogurt, you could see if he liked it.

It helps my brother's cat if they lay a towel across her when she's having a seizure. It helped if they lightly touched her, but sometimes she would scratch them. So they tried the towel and that helped.

Sorry, I don't remember, she says so many things and all of this is done while I sit in the car and she has Yoyo in the exam room. This world has got to get better and soon:)

How do they treat the seizures?
What is the medicine?
My vet said there are medicines to help prevent but that Yo wouldn't do well on them. So she gave me valium to insert rectally.

They don't give her any medicine. I'll try to remember to call my brother tomorrow and ask him some questions.

I really appreciate your time and everything that you told me. I feel better knowing what you told me tonight. My vet didn't have medicine to prevent the seizures for Yoyo. Just the valium to help stop a bad seizure...thanks again:bighug:

Debra, I found this site that has good info on seizures and epilepsy in cats.

They talk about face twitches as one of the signs. Didn’t Yo have twitching?

They also mention CKD as a cause of late-onset seizures.

They mention gabapentin among others as one of the meds used to “control” the seizures.

Thank you Sonia for thinking of Yoyo....I just read the article
