Hello!

We had a diabetic cat in 2012 that happily went into remission!!! It has been a while since we were on this forum.

8 years later, another of our fuzzy babies has been diagnosed with diabetes. Cosmo is 14yrs old and I cannot remember some of the things we did with insulin and tracking. Some reminders would be fantastic!

We will be switching back to wet food only - high protein, low carb...of course :)
I'd like to set up a tracker for Cosmo. Can someone help guide me to the template?
Not sure what kind of insulin he will be on yet...vet appt. tomorrow.

Hi and welcome back! Lovely to meet Cosmo.
I can see you are looking at the spreadsheet instructions so you have found them.
Do you have a human meter or a pet meter? Most of us use a human meter and are happy with them. Our dosing methods are based on human meters.
If you could also set up your signature which will tell us all about Cosmo that would be great thanks.
I don’t know what insulin you used before but one of the longer lasting ones like Lantus or Prozinc is best. I think you can get Lantus over the counter in Canada without a prescription. It’s a great insulin for cats.
This link will have information which may be useful. Let us know if we can help with anything.
BTW I can’t see the Elie’s SS you have posted. Did you press share?

Hi!

Thanks! Elie's BG SS was for our remission kitty, so I created a new one for Cosmo just now.

We used the tight regulation protocol with Elie and am hoping our vet recommends Lantus again for Cosmo, although he mentioned a pen rather than syringes. So, not sure.
We still have our human meter from when Elie was being tested regularly several years ago. No strips yet...

With the lantus pen you can only increase full doses. With the pen we buy U-100 syringes with half unit markings. You take the too off of the one and there is a small rubber stopper, stick the syringe in there and draw up the dose

The syringes with half unit markings are better because we increase or decrease by 0.25 units

Cosmo is gorgeous!
The pen is no good as it can only go up in 1 unit increments. We recommend going up in 1/4 Unit increments...I’m sure you remember.
You can use the pen cartridges with the U100 0.3ml 30 or 30 gauge 6 or 8 mm syringes with 1/2 unit markings
I bought the Lantus cartridges and used syringes mentioned above.

I see you have set up Cosmos SS that was super quick!! But I still can’t see it. Did you press share?
I’ll tag @Chris & China (GA) as I know she’s around and she is a whizz at fixing SS that don’t behave?
