So I'm pretty sure Taco got into our dog's dry food last night or early this morning. I discovered him doing that a couple of weeks ago. We have been pretty good at picking it up if the dogs don't finish but I forgot to last night. IDK if a little indulgence of carbs would affect numbers all day today though.....

Should I keep monitoring him at this dose for right now or up it? I know he needs to build up the depot and this is only our 4th cycle on Lantus.

The depot takes 5-7 days to build at the beginning, so it's time to slip on a comfy pair of patience pants. ;) However, let’s reevaluate after six cycles on this dose. If he’s still all over 300, we might be able to increase sooner.

And yes, dry food is probably high carb and can take a day or so to work out of his system.

I found it handy to add two more columns to my SS so that I could keep track of the time that I shoot - to make sure that it's 12 hours apart and for consistency.

Lantus loves consistency - so each day you'll want to be sure to shoot at the same time - 12 hours apart - some folks have special challenges with the 12 hour schedule due to work issues, etc. But if there's any way you can work it out - I know yesterday you mentioned a sleep schedule - seems like that's one thing around here that a lot of us suffer from - sleep disruption - either at night because suddenly someone (yes, the cat) feels like taking a dive to visit the sharks - which then requires a 'pajama party' - OR typical for me we start early because I work and my day ends early...so just try to figure out what works best for you - and if DH will help with one or the other that's even better! Sometimes this is definitely a two-person job.

Another thing about these sugar kitties, they're very opportunistic and will seek out any carbs that are unguarded...My Luci is fond of candy and baked goods...so I have had to learn the hard way to make sure all of that kind of thing is put away from the grasp of her little paws! Hang in there...it'll all get to be a habit soon.

Enjoy your evening!

"so it's time to slip on a comfy pair of patience pants." Lol! Ok, will do! ;) I totally know it takes a while to start working - I'm just anxious for him to feel better. My poor guy has been feeling awful for so long. He has gained all of his weight back so I'm thankful for that. :)

We've been doing a pretty good job at making sure the shots are exactly 12 hours apart. DH has been giving shots in the AM but I really need to teach him how to test too - it should be easy for him since Taco is so used to it now. I'm a huge night owl and had to set my alarm for his AMPS test. Or I could just start going to bed earlier I suppose. Lol! I did give him his shot about 30 minutes later than usual this morning because I'm slowly trying to adjust his shot time from 8:30 to 10. That would work a lot better for me. Maybe I'll adjust it in 10-15 minute increments.
And yeah, I opened a bag of ground coffee the other day and Taco went flying off the table and practically lost his sh*t because he thought it was a bag of dry food. Hadn't seen him that active in months! Lol!!!
Have a good night too! :)

Absolutely move the time of day to best suit your schedule. You can move the shot time by 15 minute increments at AM and PM until you've adjusted the time. It's gotta work for your schedule...so that's a great idea!

Funny about Taco moving so fast at the sound of a rustling bag of what he thought might just be dry food!:p:D:joyful::rolleyes: LOL!
