So idk what to do. My first day back to work and scratches is low on my break at +3. I cannot stay home with her and I have no one to check on her for me. I can come home again in a couple of hours but I cannot stay home now to make sure she isn't dropping. Idk if I should give her some med carb food or what..? I think I just will give her some. Idk if that's the right thing to do but I don't have another option. I knew this would happen, now I get to worry about her all day. I think she really wants a dose reduction but it's hard to not feed her when she drops like that and I can't be home with her to monitor

What I usually do when Luci drops 100 points is to feed her a nice dollop of low carb Fancy Feast with a little dab of medium carb FF on top...I want to make sure she eats it. Which of course since it's some kind of gravy she usually laps up. If she's still hungry she'll eat the rest of the low carb.

The important thing about a big drop is that it can often be an indicator that she's just on the way down...and sometimes Luci is unable to apply the brakes herself...so next time you have to leave, try to leave out plenty of food. If you can get an auto-feeder they're very helpful for working folks. Just fill it with Fancy Feast - you can even freeze a couple of chunks up for the later part of the day if you live in a warmer place...so there's a constant supply of food available.

Every cat is different, so you may have to experiment a bit with what foods help Scratches to surf and which ones actually stop the cycle...(cause the numbers to go back up, when you'd rather they didn't). I hope this is helpful!

Very helpful thank you. I gave her a spoonful of medium carb fancy feast and made sure she was eating before I left. I had my boyfriend check her an hour later and she was still around 70. I actually had him take the medium carb away at that point and had him give her some more low carb fancy feast. I didn't want her snacking on the medium carb food for the next two hours. I'm hoping that hour was a big enough indicator that she won't drop any further. I'll be home in a couple more hours now. She has plenty of food to snack on.

Should I have left the medium carb out? Should I start leaving medium carb out when she drops like that and I have to leave? It's hard to tell bc like you said, don't want to stop the cycle and go up, just want her to surf safely.

It's hard to second guess what these kitties are going to do...however, to be on the safe side IF you're not going to be home to monitor, it might be a good idea to add a little MC to the food...I'd rather be safe than sorry...I understand about not want to stop or slow the cycle...but you also don't want to tempt fate and prevent her from going too low. It's just a little more challenging when you're not at home.
