Hi all,

post from yesterday... http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/ramone-05-24-amps-228-6-66.230011/#post-2574900

So yesterday Ramone showed that his dose needed to be lowered and then I ended up just give 6 units last night to try and drain depot out a bit.
all went well

then this AM 140 so I gave the 8.5 units his new proper lowered dose from 9. and now again +4 down to 70...
little nervous its going to keep going down as its still early in the day yet...

I am home and can monitor him....

if he drops into 30s again today that means reduction right or would even a 40s call for a reduction? then just go straight to 8 units tonight ?

I think we've learned that next time you do a BCS, you should do a half dose, instead of 2/3, to try to drain that depot. Let's see what he does the rest of the day instead of trying to predict what might happen.

Did you give him a little bit of low carb food with that 70?

Okay I think so too. Everything seems to be a learning roller coaster with Ramone!

And he has food out to eat if he wants. I did see him eat about hour ago - so he does have food in him but nothing in last 15 mins. I will check him at +5 or should I check +4.5 too ?

I see Ramone decided to dive into the lime green. Hope he comes up for you easily. Definitely time for a tsp or two of high carb.

Yes that is exactly what I did, it was 2 tsp size forsure and he gobbled it up. I tested 30 min after that and he bumped up to 75 (4.3)

+11 70 (3.9)

What are your thoughts for tonights dosing ? I don't know what the heck to do ....

I should also mention since Saturday Ramone has had diarrhea thought it would clear up in a day or so but nope - not sure if that could be effecting anything at all ? I've got him some probiotics from my vet PRoviable-DC. I actually seen him drinking water today from dish today too he must be a bit dehydrated too...

Have you been feeding him anything different the last few days? Diarrhea can make them dehydrated. I found out the hard way that Neko built up an intolerance to wheat, which a lot of the higher carb foods have. I had to switch to foods that had carbs from potatoes. Did you look for that S. boullardi that Sienne mentioned a few days ago. It's a good one for stopping diarrhea. Page with details here.

A couple options for tonight, depending where he is. You can do a second BCS to try to get rid of more of that 9.0 unit depot. Or reduce the dose some more to 8.0 units. He may not hold that reduction, but it's easier to increase back up than keep fighting low greens.

No has not had anything different for his regular lc food or his "hypo kit" food either - I have these fancy feast Medley's for high carb and fancy chunky/grilled with gravy's for the med carb..
I'm really not sure of what is triggering this ? Do cat's catch like a "flu bug" type of thing ever? My only thought is he was getting a bit more of the med/high carb food than what I would do or give when he was at the cat hotel... but this is on going 2 days. He still eats well though.

I did order the S.Boullardi, but couldn't wait for them to arrive so I'll have that for future or is that something they could take daily ? Even for my other cat ? He's got the opposite problems of diarrhea though...

For tonight.... okay... I will see where he's at tonight with his #.... extra cautious me wants to do BCS - and do a half dose... we will see...

There is a "stop diarrhea" as well as maintenance dose that can be given of S. boullardi. The page I linked has the details. What are you using for his medium carb? I had to stop giving Fancy Feast high carb due to the wheat flour. There are some Weruva Cats in the Kitchen line that are higher carb from potatoes.

Oh okay I will read that page thank you!

Medium carb is still fancy feast too - gravy lovers or salmon/chicken/beef feast in gravy something like that ... I have also used Friskies but I just tend to not buy it.

I do have some weruva I just have not looked it up to see what carb level it is. I will look into it. I should probably be feeding both my boys a higher quality food. Ramone LOVES tiki cat but that is all LC..
I will try and pay a lot more attention to what flavors etc I'm giving him. That is one thing I'm not good at or put in any effort at all in tracking. Food journal.

okay so drum rolll.... his PMPS is 70 (3.9)

I think i'm doing 4.25 units...
