Hello everybody,

First, I’d like you forgive my bad English...

I’m Julie, French, and Goudi’s owner, a 9 years old male cat who’s diagnosed diabetic the 2nd of January. I started to give him insulin twice a day and follow him at home with glucometer.

I also joined a marvellous french speaking Facebook support group named Diabète Félin : apprendre à gérer son chat diabétique, which is managed by a woman known by many of you : @Steph & Quintus & L & O.

Unfortunately, we discovered that Goudi seems to have the Cushing disease, with a pituitary microadenoma, which leads to have a very, very difficult diabetes regulation. I give him currently 16 units of Lantus twice a day, and his glucose rates stay around 350 mg/dl (i.e 19,5 mmol) although he recieves strong treatment against Cushing (20 mg of Trilostane : Vetoryl). Stephanie advised me to join your group because there are most cats here with this kind of disease.

I’d like to have owners testimonies and advices about how to manage diabetes with Cushing (insulin rates with Vetoryl treatment, veterinary support, and any other usefull advice) in order to succeed in breaking the glucose curve !

Thank you very much for your help !

Julie & Goudi

Yay for ginger cats :p Are you from Europe or Canada? J'essais de parler le plus anglais possible pour que les gens puissent suivre heh. Je suis super contente de te connaitre et dis moi si tu as besoin d'aide pour ta SS :) Je suis pas une pro mais je l'ai eu du premier coup!

Yes ! Ginger cats power !! Hihi ! I’m from France !

Thanx I have already a SS, I’ll try to put it in my signature today. Unfortunately it’s written in French...:(

Allo Julie :) Est ce que Gouli mange encore des croquettes et le pate Hills? Je pense que ce serait bien de changer...mais je ne suis pas une pro...la bouffe seche c sur que ca aide pas. (Hi Julie, is Gouli still on dry food and Hills canned diet? I think it would be better to change his diet, i am not a pro but removing the dry food could help.)
How is he doing?

A little reminder if you remove dry food completely Goudi's blood glucose could drop into dangerously low levels. Make sure you are home testing before removing dry food and do so often. ;):coffee:

Je pense que 16 unit d'insuline c beaucoup...Comme JT a dit, tu devrais enlever la bouffe seche tranquillement. (I think that 16 units of insuline is a lot, removing the dry food slowly like JT said, would be best)

Hi ! I tried and amazingly with canned his levels of BG went higher !

A note on food: I know that on FDMB the recommendation is "do away with the dry". On the French group we have lots of good experiences with dry diabetic veterinary diets, including hard-to-regulate cats on low-carb wet food becoming much less bouncy and better regulated when free-feeding kibble. Just giving this info so you have some background regarding the approach to food with Goudi.
