I am glad you have got some cerenia.
I would not increase the dose to 2 units. The 1 unit took Dusty down to 142 yesterday morning. Increasing to 2 units is doubling the dose. The reason she has those high numbers is because she is bouncing from the 142. Newly diagnosed cats can bounce a lot. It’s common and quite normal. Cats bounce when 1. They drop too fast, 2. They drop too low and 3. They drop lower than they have been used to more recently and they think they are in danger. So they send out an sos......help....and their body dumps stored glucose and regulatory hormones into their system and the BG shoots up high. They can bounce from 1 to 6 cycles. There is nothing you can do to stop it once it’s happened. You just have to wait for the BGs to go back down to where they were.
When cats come off the bounce sometimes they can do it hard and fast. So you need to be aware of that and monitor closely once they start to come back down.
We recommend increasing in 1/4 unit increments to ensure we don’t go past the best dose and we keep them safe.
I see on the other thread that the pancreatic test was negative. That’s good. Did the vet give any explanation for the lack of appetite?
Most vets increase in 1 unit increments but I would really recommend you go back to the 1 unit of Lantus and see what happens once she comes off the bounce.
We only have 2 days of data to go by.
Have you looked at the two dosing methods? If you have any questions please ask.
