Hello, I am a new diabetic cat mom. He was diagnosed a couple months ago after I saved him as a rescue. He had a massive infection and we found out he was diabetic. I got him regulated with insulin (or so I thought) and he got another infection this weekend and his health went down hill. He's a dream and I love him but if he keeps getting this sick, he's going to break the bank. Is there something I'm doing wrong that he keeps getting UTI's, or is this going to happen? I just got a glucose-meter that actually works and hope to keep a closer eye on his blood sugar levels. Thanks!

Do you know if the vet sent the urine out to be tested to see what was causing the UTI? It is very possible that you needed a different antibiotic to fight the infection. I recommend that you call your vet and find out. They may may need to do a different culture and send it out to be tested so you can get on the right antibiotic.

He did give me a different antibiotic this time--said it was a lot more powerful and can fight the infection. My cat bounced back in less than 24 hours. They never addressed why he would get an infection again, other than his diabetes might not have been entirely under control.
