I almost made this a 911 but her BG reading went up. So she tested at 46 on freestyle at +6 but I dropped the meter earlier in the day, so I was concerned if I got a true result. Fed her high carb FF grilled and she was acting normal, drinking water actually moving around meowing at me to be petted, etc then retested about 40 minutes later on freestyle I got 71 and on Relion (used for the first time) 98 it’s a big different when the numbers are low because 98 is ideal and 71 not so much. If ReliOn is accurate than she was never as low as the 46 I got. So my questions are:

Could the fact I dropped the freestyle have caused it to malfunction and get me wanky number? Or they’re just always going to give me different readings?
Which reading do I trust? I’m leaning towards the ReliOn since her behavior was not of a hypo kitty

I’m trying to do her curve today but now I’m dealing with 2 ears that have gotten quite beat up and she’s growing impatient with each test especially after the retest. Advice please!

Yeah, it's usually best to just pick one meter and stick with it, so if you dropped one and don't trust it-- use the other one! They all have an allowed 15% variance at the best of times. That means that even with the same meter it's possible (unlikely and not ideal operation, but possible) to get a 71 (±10.65) and 98 (±14.7) as two attempt to measure a number in the low 80's.

Don't let up on testing-- if that 46 was real and the HC bumped her up, it could wear off. You may have to abandon the full curve due to her ear condition (poor ears!), and just concentrate on another test or two in the near future to make sure she's good to go for the rest of the cycle.

I would also drop the dose by 0.25U. I tend to think, based on her dipping into green a couple hours earlier, that that 46 might have been real, or at least not that far off. Worst case scenario, you will just have to go back up again later!

If you’re math is right mine is totally wrong which is very possible lol but 98 is over 30% more in difference than 71, isn’t it?

@Deb & Wink and I had been talking about increasing her based on this week’s numbers and her numbers so confusing to me and all over the map, but here’s the worse part with her nausea what she eats changes almost daily so of course that affects her numbers so just I don’t if today she went super low because the last 2 mornings she ate a jar of baby food instead of a can of FF which has a lot less carbs. But today she was back to the FF thanks to the vomit and med at 4:45am, so I really don’t understand the drop unless she was still dropping from yesterday all night... thoughts on that?

do you use ReliOn? It requires more blood and it was a bit tricky to use because I was used to basically scooping up the droplet with the freestyle strip but apparently with the ReliOn you have to wait for it to pull it from the ear? Urghhh it also doesn’t beep to let me know it’s got it :arghh:

But each reading could be off in either direction-- so you could have a true number in the low 80's, but get a 70's (15% error down) and then in the 90's (15% error up). Again, it's very unlikely-- usually if meters are off by that much they are consistent in the direction.

i guess we’re going down to 2.5 at this rate she’ll be in remission by summer :nailbiting: just kidding

I’d appreciate any tips about using the ReliOn test strips from folks who use it.

thanks!

Sorry-- I don't use that brand, no tips here.

As for speculation on why she might have gone low, I don't know. Maybe the meds kicked in and she was simply feeling better?

Anyway, given what she did today, and when, is there any way you can shift your midday test to a hour or two earlier than normal? +7 may be a bit past her nadir, you might be missing some exciting stuff!

I’m inclined to think it’s the food. I think the combination of 2 servings of baby food because she wouldn’t eat anything else so 2 less servings of FF and 1 of Rawz instead of the Royal Canin may have sent her numbers spiraling down. I’ll know in a few days if I can get her back to normal eating but it’s tough with her nauseated almost every morning now

i was thinking the same thing. Based on today, her nadir could be at +4. Yes I can test her then since I’m not working right now when I am, it will be impossible to get any day readings, but I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

Should I create a thread about ReliOn? I’m a bit stressed out about collecting blood with it.

Thanks ladies!

And now I need to go give Bobo some love because it’s been an all Minnie day from 4:45am vomit on the only area rug I have in the house of course, through the pee outside the litter box onto the hardwood floor, and the BG ups and downs. He’s such a good boy he waits patiently while mom is running around like a chicken with her head cut off haha!

Awwww rough day. Sorry Ale you are stressing. Please give Minnie and Bobo some scritches from me.

Okay just to wrap up this thread, she tested 233 at amps and I thought be ready for a bounce Ale, but just tested her @+5 and she’s at 145 will probably go a bit lower in the next hour but I don’t think lower than 90. Just gave her some treats post test and next feeding is in about an hour. Let’s see how long we can hold the new dose :bighug:
